Fair enough but high completion percentage is still an important factor along with yards and INTs. Overall, Drew is rated #8 by Quarterback Ranking (QBR). He's ahead of guys like Beck, Milroe, and Sanders. The people before him are Ward, Dart, Rourke, Howard, Gabriel, Robertson (Baylor), and Horvath (Navy).

If you factor in talent on the team, players that don't play against the same level of competition (Baylor, Navy), Teams that have much more overall/receiving talent teams (Miami, Ohio State, Oregon), that are "pass-happy", and age you get in an even higher rating.

Plus, he's only 20 years old while Roark (24) Howard (23), Gabriel (23), and Sanders (22) are much older.

What I was unsure about was whether their players were more concerned with blocking to prevent good coverage and facilitate a return vs trying to go for the blocked kick as they had successfully done earlier.

Probably not in the dual meet. Brands knows he's underpowered and the match will be at Penn State this year. He'll use the same strategy that he used the last time they came to Penn State. Guys who have a chance to win will open up and guys like Caliendo who are overmatched will stall as much as possible without being DQ'd. You really can't blame Brands for going that route. It's his best chance to keep the score close and maybe, by some miracle, they can pull off an upset.

There are a few issues with the playoff that need to be addressed. The provision of conference champs getting a bye also needs to be looked at. Why is Boise St (as of now) getting a top 4 seed and a bye week while Ohio St gets seeded lower with a first round game? I think the seeding should be based on the committee like March Madness.

There shouldn’t be a reserved spot for the G5. If they have a team good enough and ranked in the top 12 like Boise this year then they should be in. However, we shouldn’t be saving a spot for a #24 ranked team to jump multiple more deserving teams simply because they’re G5 and get special privileges.

Here is my rationale. Anyone who loses 3 games is unlikely to be in the running for best team in the country. A worthy team can lose 1 game, especially early in the season. Bad weather, hostile crowd, cross-country trip to play, key injuries etc. Maybe even 2, if they are to top teams. Of course this is not a written rule there could be exceptions, though I would make few if any.

I only like the play call if we have identified a weakness in what our opponent is doing and felt that it was a vulnerability that gave us a high probability of success.

If we were just attempting to do it randomly in hope of catching them off guard, I would not be for trying it at that that juncture of the game. It appears that the special teams' 'QB' and walk on Dom did an admirable job in calling and executing the play.

The special teams were in need of redemption, and they provided it with that play. ST needs to fix their problems. It's too late in the year to be having those type of blocking assignment and punting breakdowns.

The block earlier in the game probably helped, because at least one Gopher was probably not gap sound trying to make another splash play.

Some degree of holding occurs along the line of scrimmage during every play. With that in mind it is up to the officials to make sure that the holding does not become too egregious. And that is where the majority of B1G officials are deficient.

In order to properly evaluate the officiating, it would be nice if each official had their own Google Glasses type cam that would provide us with the perspective of what the official actually saw.

Having done some IM / summer league basketball officiating your positioning is important. You need to maximize your ability to see while minimizing your court presence from interfering with the game. You can't call what you can't or didn't see .....

It didn't end up mattering but on Minnesota's last possession (where they ended up kicking the FG) on second down (I think) they ran a weird looking trick play that seemed like it was designed as a swing pass to an OL (Ersery). He was definitely covered up on the play, so unless the pass was backwards (it wasn't) it would have been illegal touching. Bad play design on that by Minny unless the OL in the flat was just eye candy and the QB was just throwing it away (because they didn't have whatever they were really trying to do).
