Is the grass always greener? Franklin haters would think so

I will say it again, winning football games is hard. Really hard. And James Franklin has won a lot of them. Maybe there is a better coach out there for PSU if we get rid of him but I wouldn't hold my breath for that to happen. Tons of blue blood programs end up in the coaching carousel for a decade or more because they believe the answer to their problems lies in another head coach.

Nebraska is a great example. Nebraska hasn't had a coach even come close to Be Pelini who was 67-27 (.713 win percentage) while at Nebraska who coached his last game for them in 2014.

Mike Riley: 19-19
Scott Frost: 16-31
Mickey Joseph: 3-6
Matt Rhule: 10-8 (the verdict is still out on Rhule).

If Matt Rhule can turn the program around it will have taken a decade for the Cornhuskers to be competitive again and multiple head coaches. Do we want to go through a stretch like Nebraska has gone through? I don't and I am not positive if we bring in someone else that this won't be us. It is certainly a risk.

Why Wisconsin terrifies me (trap game)

The afterglow of Saturday is finally fading a bit, and like most of you, I'm analyzing our chances after the bye and beyond. And history tells us to be afraid of PSU's performance in this very position.

2017--Lose heartbreaker in Columbus. Hardly drop in the polls, but we go to a less talented #24 MSU team the next week, endure an ungodly storm delay, and fritter the game away. Most talented Franklin team wasted.

2018--Lose heartbreaker to OSU in Happy Valley. Get a bye. Come out flat after a bye week against unranked MSU team and lose again. No more top 10 ranking that season for us...

2019--8-0 and ranked #3 in the country. Coming off bye week, we travel to #17 Minnesota and lay an egg.

2021--start a solid 5-0 and ranked #4. Travel to #3 Iowa and lose a heartbreaker. Bye week...and come home and lose the worst game in PSU history, 9OT against a terrible Illinois team.

Three AWFUL performances that wasted our potential for the season coming right after a bye week...and all four seasons saw us lose to teams we should have beaten. I hope Franklin has learned from these trials and is determined to keep his players sharp physically and mentally because this road game to Wisconsin is by far our biggest TRAP game of the season
I don't see this as a year where the coaches or the players get caught up in a trap game mentality. The leadership on this team has been excellent and Franklin always has that one game at a time attitude. I think the two bye weeks came at just the right times often that is not the case. IMO We will be prepared and ready for a night game in Wisky town. There will be plenty of energy in that game we will not have to manufacture our own. My only question is will we start slow on both sides of the ball yet once again.

Recruiting other team's commits

FYI - Koll is a good guy. Yeah - he may have made a few comments that rubbed some people the wrong way, but so have I and a lot of other people posting here. Now if he was part of the Iowa program .....
I have known Koll since he was a junior high kid and I have always liked him. I haven't always agreed with him, but I don’t have to agree with anybody all the time to be able to like them.

I don't believe that was Koll implying Cael did anything wrong. It was Koll simply poking at Cael and not all that surprising considering the mutual dislike each has for the other.

Can Allar win the Heisman?

Basically he says no UNLESS we go 13-0 which he thinks is possible
IMO only if we go to the NC game. Think about it. QBs like Sanders, Ward, Beck, Milroe, Ewers, etc are rated higher than Allar.

I saw a site projecting NFL draft picks and Allar was the #10 QB expected to be drafted late 2nd round. That makes me wonder if he would consider returning to PSU next year if he could get a $million NIL deal.

Why Wisconsin terrifies me (trap game)

It very well could be, particularly with the Buckeye game in the immediate week after. I don't think the bye matters as much since we have 2 this year. If it does, what do we do in the playoff? Pray we make the ccg and lose? Because winning the ccg creates a bye. Not making the ccg means a week between the end of the season and start of the playoff, essentially a bye.

I think primarily the issue was letdown after a loss moreso than the bye, and I think we handled losses better since '22. Now we just have to learn how to beat better teams.
The bye might help PSU because players like Singleton & Donkoh are banged up and could use the time off to heal.

Why "Social Media" is great....

Lot’s of great stuff here. Love Jason’s mindset. Funny story how he couldn’t stop yawning when Cael visited. Said between the two of them not many words spoken back then because they both don’t say much not many recruited him because everyone thought he was going to Cornell. Was not happy about Dake coming to NLWC. Enjoy

Next National Champ.

OSU wins out, Oregon wins out, PSU and Indiana only lose to OSU. All 4 should be in. If OSU loses the CCG to Oregon then they could drop below Penn State and Indiana or not? Depends how close our game is with them but sounds eerily similar to 2016 in reverse.
Ohio State losing that game still gets them a home playoff game. The question is are we a spot or two higher or are they? Will they actually count losing to Oregon twice as 2 losses? Would be interesting. I think it depends on the competitiveness of both games. Indiana is like a 10-11 seed. Could be our first opponent.

Why Wisconsin terrifies me (trap game)

I think their run game is pretty good but just basing that off the Rutgers game. I think they took advantage of Rutgers injuries so it may not be that good.

We just need to play a solid game and we should be fine. Don"t get behind, play good defense from the outset, no turnovers. Hopefully Singleton is more healthy. Let Warren do what Warren does.
Yeah the took advantage of the issues Rutgers has. That game is just an illusion.
Anything can happen. Vandy beat Bama. But this should be a nice warm up for Ohio State.

Thoughts after watching the replay

Bingo!

Illinois was the only team thus far who our new DC coached against, so we may see significant improvement for the rest of the season, and the bye week came at possibly the best possible time.

With the toll that the season takes on players, it seems like there's never a bad time for a bye as you get into mid-October. However, there are some times that may be better than others. Personally, I would have preferred to ride the momentum of the USC win directly into Madison and then, after hopefully beating the Badgers, get a bye in the lead-up to Ohio State.

As usual the SEC is one step ahead on such matters. Their teams not only get the regular byes but then what amounts to another bye with a cupcake game against the Mercers of the world in November.

Next National Champ.

According to the PiTiots, PiT is it.

LMAO!!!!!

🤪
MAC level pitt has zero possibility of winning the national championship. Their 2* and 3* dandies can't compete with the big boys.

On a separate pitt note, one of their linebackers (Brandon George) deserves props for starting a a campaign to help families at UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh. The money goes to families who have children who have been diagnosed with cancer. It is a terrific charity and donations can be made at this link.
