Is the grass always greener? Franklin haters would think so

Who would you replace him with?
This is still the most illogical question asked. You never know who will succeed and who won't. See Georgia. Smart wasn't a lock but worth the risk.

Barring a complete collapse Franklin makes the playoff this year and no one should be calling for his job next year but this is all about next level. If he can't continue to advance the program you find have to try to find someone who can

This is like Mike Tomlin with the Steelers...eventually 9-8 isn't good enough and you need to move on like Philly did with Andy Reid. Like Reid, Franklin will go elsewhere and duplicate what he did here but the good isn't to be good...its to win titles. He's not doing that and needs to demonstrate he can...eventually.

I do not think he would want to move on out of fear that next year may be more difficult. He genuinely seems to like it at PSU. It’s still early in his contract, which has an enormous buyout. There are very few jobs that are better than this one. And what he does not accomplish in the recruiting cycle, he can accomplish to a degree in the portal cycle. We certainly have been net positive in the portal cycle.
Aren't we a relatively young team that had to replace most of its o-line, multiple d-ends, linebackers, d-backs and kicker from last season? I realize that if we lose Allar, which I don't believe is a given, we'll probably take a step back, but if he comes back, I still believe that we should be a top 10 caliber team.

Brett McMurphy pointed out in a tweet that in the last 13 games:

Records in last 13 games
Mack Brown 5-8
Sonny Dykes 5-8
Hugh Freeze 5-8
Lance Leipold 5-8
Billy Napier 5-8
Lincoln Riley 5-8
Deion Sanders 5-8
Scott Satterfield 5-8
Mark Stoops 5-8

add to that:
Mike Norvell 7-6
Gus Malzahn 6-7
Luke Fickell 6-7
PJ Fleck 6-7
yep, you better have a sure thing ready if your going to replace him.

I mean, just look at the long td run by USC in the first quarter. That play was so badly defended on so many levels, including Carter turning his back to the play. And speaking about Carter, is it just I, or am I crazy to think that he could be an AA middle linebacker rather than playing at end. It just seems that this defense plays its best when he plays in the middle or as a rover, which usually only happens in the second half once adjustments are made. I just don't think that he's a natural end like a Chop Robinson.
It was an absolute perfect call by Riley. He is one of the top 3 or 4 minds in all of football offensively. That will happen to you once or twice no matter who you are. Franklin and Allen made a business decision: Branch will not beat us....and he didn't, but that's a trade and it took Riley exactly 5 plays to figure it out. The entire defense went with the fake. Riley took advantage of the over pursuing Rojas and put him in stress.

I knew we would give one of those up. The real shock that I did not think anyone saw coming was #4 that running back named Woody Bush. Yep I said Woody Bush because that looked exactly like Reggie Bush on Saturday. Sorry but I will say this now and stand by it: That's the best running back in the nation, period. Unreal speed, cutting ability, vision etc. People are dogging our front 7 because of his 120 yards but that dude got damn near all of them himself. That hold up on the flea flicker where he just decides in a milli second to not throw back, basically blindly, then out running the entire other 21 men on the field basically blowing by our guys, their guys, are lbs, their wide receivers and going 50 yards to gain 25, and only a saving tackle by Wheatley...sorry but that was Reggie Bush.

Man I still don't know how we won that game, they have the best skill players in America, bar none.

A couple of things, it is a new position and he should get better at end as the season progresses. Secondly, he is facing a lot of double teams, tackle/tight end, tackle/back.

Colin Cowherd

Colin loves USC.

Sure, he’s obnoxious but he does actually veer into interesting topics beyond the typical sports radio banter. He’s entertaining, which is his job.

Also he doesn’t hate PSU. He just loves USC, and Harbaugh and Meyer. We’re extra sensitive as he talked up our rivals over the years.
Cowherd's act is much luck that of a pro wrestling villain; what he says and how he acts often has no other purpose than to get under the skin of a large portion of his audience. Another analogy might be a message board troll where the "substance" of the posts is nothing more than an effort to get a reaction. He doesn't upset me, but he doesn't entertain or inform me either, and while I agree that he can get into interesting topics, it just not enough to make me sit through the other stuff.

Ohio State vs Oregon

The idea that they would fire him and get somebody better is ridiculous. People forget that Urban Meyer lost several games to far below competition and that Ryan day has never lost a game to an inferior opponent. USC and LSU are learning that if you just hire a coach with what looks like a good resume, there's no guarantee of success. The players love playing for him and his results have been quite good. I think OSU is very lucky to have him.

One indication of the value he has to Ohio State is that CJ Stroud, one of the classiest and most skilled football players around, said that he loved every minute that he was at Ohio state. People should compare days first five or six years to those of Jim harbaugh.
To be fair though, doesn't almost every player say that? Day's been great but with the money spent this year to keep that team together 10-2 is going to (fair or not) make that seat very hot.

Ohio State vs Oregon

IMO, as a Buckeye, it does not matter if we think that was a OPI, it happened it was called that is over. Oregon got hosed with that non-interception, so it washes out. Ohio State lost, because of conservative play calling on both sides of the ball and poor end of game management. People are made at Day for this reason and because it is becoming a trend. Last year conservative defensive play calling let Michigan march down the field and score, we had a chance to win and didn't. Georgia, again same thing they march down on us and score, and we again have a chance to win but don't. This is why people are getting upset with Day, but he still has everything in front of him this year. If he beats Michigan and makes at least the final 4 he is fine, but lose to michigan or first round of playoffs and his seat will get hot.

Being an Ohio State fan is like being a Steelers fan, have a 500 or better season again and make the playoffs and lose, YAY, and again, yay, and again..ugh...
