What I liked in the game

1) Depth on the DL is the best I remember in the B1G era for PSU. Outside of Pribula, that's what won the game. Ford, Beamon, Izzard, Vilbert, Vanover -- they can all play and the dropoff from starters to 2nd string is not much at all. Every single member of that D-line was causing trouble at one time or another.

2) Receivers group looked like the weakness of the team, but they have all worked hard to improve and are a group PSU can win with. Throwing to Fleming might not be something you do when the game is on the line (though it worked out vs USC). But the guy is a really good blocker/screener. Good things happen when he's on the field. Liam Clifford is a real pest -- great football IQ, understands coverage and finds seams in the zone, and has more speed than opponents realize. Wallace has been really consistent this year - maybe another player who hasn't got the attention he's deserved.

3) I don't know why we don't have more discussions about Kobe King, but that guy has quietly become the next great Penn State linebacker IMHO. He is a rock out there.

Senior Worlds (non Olympic weights) - October 28-31, 2024

Seriously. DT vs Sadulaev first round?!?! Also same side as Ghasempour. Would see him in the semis. Wild that one of those 3 won’t place. The bottom is sooo weak compared. Also up top are Akturk, Ishiguro, Abakarov.

We also get Ono vs Uguev first round. They are on the same side as Vito. Would meet in the semis. Vito on the tougher side for sure.

Burroughs with a pretty tough draw. Likely gets Khadjiev, then Evloev, and then Nokhodi. Should definitely win the first 2 but then Nokhodi in the quarters is a tough match.

Thoughts on Allar injury?

The ball sails when you can't plant that leg. You can't follow through cause of the pain so you compensate. In Drew's warm-ups you could see that.

I get that. I'm just saying that the mechanics of throwing a football suggest a left knee injury is less debilitating to a right-handed qb than a right knee injury. A right handed qb with a 50% healthy left knee has a better chance than than the same with a 50% healthy right knee.

Football Penn State opens as 4.5-point underdogs versus Ohio State

While PSU will be favorites in each, both Minny and MD ’could’ cause trouble

Minny is a road game and will try to play us ugly, rock-fight football and hope we play down to them. It should be the toughest game outside of OSU, but with Allar I don't see them being within +10 unless they dominate Illinois and soundly beat Rutgers (perception rides on Illinois game for them and whether we have Drew or not).

Maryland tends to psych themselves out vs us. I think we roll them hard regardless.

Ohio State offered McCord to ensure they'd get MHJ

If anything, it was probably the other way around. McCord was #5 QB prospect (#6 if you add the reclassified Ewers), #28 overall.

MHJ was #97 overall WR. #14 at his position. 2nd ranked in the class.

Unless OSU was after Caleb Williams first (everybody probably was, but I don't know if the Buckeyes were a contender), McCord was their pick.

Do we have the dreaded 'quarterback controversy'?

Pribula's throwing was a pleasant surprise, even though he almost got picked. I assumed he was like McSorley without McSorley's arm, but it's the opposite, he may have a stronger arm than Trace. And he showed excellent accuracy and touch. Those two throws into very tight windows -- he didn't get picked because of the velocity. That throw to the deep sideline when he was getting hit was another dangerous throw but he showed a lot of arm strength to get it there.

Clearly the team has a decent chance against tOSU. There are throws Allar can make that Pribula can't but Pribula makes up for it with running back quickness. If pass protection is an issue against Ohio State, the team might have a better chance with a highly mobile QB who can extend plays.

OT: "Old" people stories

I grew up on the south coast of Oregon. I moved to San Diego in 1987 to join SDPD. In 1989 I met my now wife, Jill, who had moved into my apartment complex in San Diego. It turned out she was from Oregon also and had moved to San Diego after college. We had been dating a few months when I told my Mom about Jill and how her mother also grew up on the south coast of Oregon. It turned out that my mother and my wife's mother had been friends in high school in a little town of approximately 1500 people called Bandon and they currently lived less than an hour from each other. My mom even had a photo of Jill's mom from a party in high school.

I didn't initially tell Jill about all of this. I had my mom send me photos of her and Jill's mom from back in high school. I showed Jill the photos and she later told me she had never felt more trapped : ) I took the opposite position and felt our relationship was meant to be! A few months later I proposed and we recently just celebrated 34 years of marriage.

I think this is very interesting. This isn't something I would typically expect of an Ohio State or player from a similar type program to say, the disrespect, wasn't good enough for x angle. I don't know, feels weird. That's something I'd expect more from a player at a lesser program that wasn't recruited by his big state school when playing his big state school to say. We'll see how it plays out in the Ohio State locker room and Saturday.

PRIBULA!!!!

I think every 15 year old knows that the only way to deal with a troll is to ignore him. Everyone on this board knows this guy is not a Penn State fan. Always takes the opposite position, argues in circles and then inevitably moves the goalposts when you pin him down. Just act accordingly and ignore him.
Someone is mad because the world's most overrated QB lost to Cleveland
