1997 Iowa vs 2024 PSU

I believe in most sports like football and basketball that today’s teams would handle teams of the past. But wrestling is dependent on weight classes so the natural bigger, stronger, faster of today might not apply as much.

If the Iowa team that holds the record for most points wrestled this year’s PSU team, who wins?

So many heroes..

Braden Davis: the Babyface assassin who came as an unheralded recruit and made it to the blood round. Wasn't expected to even start.

Aaron Nagao: the transfer who came in and wrestled with heart and nearly made it to the podium at the most loaded weight class in the nation.

Beau Bartlett: the man who had spent his whole career wrestling unselfishly wherever he was needed and was a finalist and got two pins.

Tyler Kasak: Took his place along side James English as a legend. Moved up a weight, true freshman, was a third string backup, and won seven consecutive matches to finish third.

Levi Haines: Came back from a heartbreak last year to win a national championship.

Mitchell Mesenbrink: Freshman wrestling up a weight. Smaller than literally every man he wrestled. National finalist who came within an eyelash of winning it all. Will never lose again.

Carter Starocci: Wrestled in one leg with a torn ACL and won his fourth national championship. Legend.

Bernie Truax: Came in and scored points and was inches away from a final. Victim of a cheap shot, he also battled back on one leg to finish 5th.

Aaron Brooks: Hodge winner. Four time champion. Will go down along side our greatest as maybe the best ever.

Daniel Greg Kerkvliet: Won a national championship and was the most dominant heavyweight since his rival Gable Stevenson.

The greatest college wrestling team in history.

Period.

Favorite non PSU wrestlers to watch and cheer for?

Here are a few of mine

Most of the Nebraska kids seem like good guys - Hardy, Lovett, Robb, Pinto, etc.

David Carr - buddies with a few of our guys, seems like a great kid

Keck & Hidlay - both have had the unfortunate task of beating generational talents from Penn State.

I dislike almost anything Ohio State but they have some guys with great offensive mindsets in Bouzakis, Welsh and Feldman.

It was nice to see some WVU guys do well. Tim Flynn ex Penn Stater has Hall, Stewart and Watters on the posium

Couldn’t bring myself to root for anyone from Iowa or Michigan
