latest rankings and team points

Intermat and Flo have released updates to the rankings ...

154 / 146 for tournament points calculated by each system

if PSU finishes as ranked by Intermat - they only need 17 points in bonus to break the record. *( Carter put up 24 team points in 2023, 2 falls, 2 decisions )*

I've stated that I'd rather see 10 All Americans on Saturday vs the team point record ... but I'm definitely curious as to how close the team score will end up!

PSU had 14 matches with bonus at the B1G tournament out of 33 contested

over/under on bonus matches at the NCAAs set the line at 19 ...

The Three Horsemen of the Apocalypse

There are so many good things to talk about with this team, one item is still flying under the radar a bit, the freshmen. They each seem to get better every week. All three were potential if not probable redshirts to start the year. These are amazing times with talent busting at the seams.

Davis at 125 - the weight is a hot mess. The top 15+ seem to be near the same level and he surely is cementing himself in that conversation. Nit the hot mess part :) My prediction = AA

Kasak 149 - he is upping his game everytime out, with every ranked kid in his path he is more creative and more confident. We have a good one here. My prediction = AA

Mesenbrink 165 - He is just plain scary. When is he going to see his real first challenge? Great attutude, incredible motor, tenatious and aggressive. He lets it fly. Who does he start to remind you of? I don't care who you are, no one is going to want to face this kid in the tourney. My prediction = High AA.

Honorable mention = Although Barr is not a starter, but did you hear what Carter said about him today? "He going to be a national champion, multi-time national champion". The last time I heard that kind of talk from one of our kids, was Mark Hall talking about Carter.

It's still early and the meat of the big 10 dual season is around the corner. There will be some loses in there, but with that comes growth. I love what I am seeing from our under-ranked and unranked three horses. Death and destruction lies ahead to many that will face them. All three are exceeding our pre-season expectations. Enjoy!!!

Film Study - Moving Abdul Carter from LB to DE

ABDUL CARTER DE FILM STUDY

See link above. Made sense to address and examine the biggest off-season news...and thankfully Carter had 3-4 dozen on-ball pass rush reps last season to give us a glimpse of WHY this move was made (freak athlete, tremendous initial post-snap speed, rare bend to turn and close) and how sharp the learning curve will be and what areas need to be smoothed out this spring and summer -- timing, technique, developing a catalog of moves instead of just trying to outrace everyone to the edge.

Flo rankings are out

Davis #1
Nagao #8
Bartlett #2 (Woods #3)
Kasak #10
Haines #1
Mesenbrink #4 (1. KOT, 2. Carr, 3. Ramirez)
Starocci #1
Bernie #5 (Gotta be a nightmare for Keckheisen)
Brooks #1
Kerkvleit #1

I'm good with all of them except:
Kasak has 3 losses at 149, two of them are to the #1 guy and both were close(ish) and a SV to Rathjen that he avenged with a 8-1 beatdown at the conference tournement. Abas is ranked one ahead but he's got 7 losses. A few of the guys ahead of him with more losses against D'emilio

Mesenbrink has to be the #2. He didn't just work through the Big Ten schedule, he hammered himself through it. He's if the Matrix had Noodle Arms and was an MCU character called "Destroyer of Worlds"
There are two undefeated guys and they're from the two toughest conferences so they have to go 1-2.

Bernie is in a good spot and Bernie could get Parker in the semis who he can beat if he gets that sweet, sweet special sauce they serve in happy valley.

Other than that I have to mention the elephant in the room. I read Carter's text today but I'm pretty sure he means he's dropping out and transferring to Mizzou for his 5th season.

BigTen Plus Streaming

I have a Big10 Plus Penn State subscription. My older Samsung SmartTV doesn't have the Big10 Plus app loaded on it so I can't stream events. I can stream on my laptop but want to watch on the large screen TV. I had a technician visit and he couldn't load the app. He showed me how to connect my laptop to the TV via an HDMI cable which will work but I like having my laptop handy for Trackwrestling for mat assignments, following posts on this forum, etc. He recommended a Roku box because he thought there was a good chance it would have more apps loaded, possibly Big10 Plus.

Before I buy the Roku box I wanted to confirm it does have the app. I visited the Roku website and it appears to have the Big10 Plus app, but I also saw search results with people having trouble streaming Big10 Plus events. Some indicated Big10 Plus has been removed, with a very complicated way to add it.

Anyone use the Roku box to stream Penn State wrestling on B10 Plus? Any tech advice for a less than tech savvy Penn State wrestling fan would be appreciated - thanks!

PS: Looking at the schedule, it appears that I only need B10 Plus for the Edinboro match and the B10 tourney, but want the multi mat options on the larger TV screen, so seems worth it to find a solution.

B1G Stats and a few observations

PENN STATE (Inj Def and Forfiets not included).

* As already pointed out, 29-4 overall
No one lost more than once
* 20.5 bonus points
Kasak and Brooks led the way with 4 each.
Bartlett was the only one with 0 bonus wins. Only two TDs and a total of 10 points for the week can do that.

MICHIGAN
* 25 - 15 Overall
1 - 7 plus a MFor in session 4.
* 7.5 bonus points with the help of a fall from Lewan
Augi, Rags, Cam, Griffith, Bullock, and Striggow with 0 bonus.
Yeah, the Wolverines are boring to watch.

IOWA
* 33 - 14 Overall
They had a better record than Mich, but day one did them in.
* 11 bonus points
With 47 matches wrestled to our 33 and UM's 40 ... not great
Calliendo and Kennedy accounted for exactly half of the 11. The others? Michigan redux ... or is it the other way around?
* I think the Hawks top Mich at NCAAs.

OHIO STATE
* 20 - 17 Overall
Historic 2022 recruiting class leads the Buckeyes to a 5th-place finish.
It's not good from Bouzakis; the highest seed not to place.
* 14 bonus points
Wrestling with "controlled anger," Rogotzki accounted for 5 and tied Nebraska's Hardy for the tourney lead in bonus points.

Shoutout to RUTGERS
* 22 - 20 Overall
1.5 points behind OSU with few, if any, top 10 recruits.
* 14 bonus points
Mitch Moore led the tourney with the most falls ... 2 for him 2 for them
