Roadtrip? Remember this if a female does any of the driving. (I am serious.)

With summer here, many of you will be taking to the road with your families. Often a female with be with you and that female will suggest she share some of the driving. Avoid this if at all possible. Say something like "Honey, I just want you to relax and enjoy the trip. I'll do all the driving." If an argument ensues and you must let a female drive, remember these time rules for any trip of more than 2 hours.
1. If a female under the age of 50 drives the car, add 50% to your travel time for every hour she drives.
2. If the female is over 50 years of age, add 100%.
3. If the female is over 75, PLEASE.....don't let the woman behind the wheel.
NOTE: These rules are based upon a just completed round trip from Pittsburgh to Boston and on many, many years of experience.

I am 62 years old and grew up in the Philly area. When I was a kid, the restaurants my parents took me to that I absolutely loved were:

3. Kelly's Seafood - Philadelphia
4. Woodbine Inn - NJ just over the Tacony Palmyra bridge - My first peel and eat jumbo shrimp!

As an adult and after travelling fairly extensively. my favorite seafood restaurants are / were:

1. The Union Oyster House - Boston
2. Anthony's Pier 4 - Boston
3. Allioto's - San Francisco
4. Joe's Stone Crabs - So. Miami Beach
5. Legal Seafood - Original in Cambridge, MA
6. Any seafood restaurant in New Orleans
7. The Clam Box - Stamford, CT? (Don't think it is there anymore) - The Belly Buster!!!

Vacation idea help.

Give me some ideas for the family.

Wife and I are both under 40 and active. Kids are 14 and 10 and active most days but will need a down day every once in a while

We like the outdoors but don't mind some city. Wife loves beach, I love Mountains, Kids like it all

Can be stationary or mobile trip but don't want nothing but driving

Overseas is fine but must be safe and fun for the kids. I would love a Viking river cruise but not sure how much they would appreciate something like that

Some of the trips considered: Central Cali, Alaskan cruise/land, Hawaii again, Europe anywhere, Utah's parks

No Caribbean please, been there done that and get a perked trip every year.

Budget 10-15k. Have at it

OT: Some recent gems I have watched on Netflix

Nightcrawler - Jake Gyllenhaal gives a powerful performance as Louis Bloom, a full blown sociopath who embarks on a career of filming tragedies in LA as they unfold, and selling the footage to local news directors like Rene Russo (who gives probably her most nuanced performance). Bill Paxton has a great supporting role as a fellow "nightcrawler", and the film takes a very unapologetic view of the news we want to watch, and how those compelling videos make it to our TV screens. Louis Bloom is quietly charming as he calmly espouses generic business acumen that would otherwise inspire, but his chilling actions and seeming lack of ANY morality puts those in his crosshairs on a path to greatness, or suffering. Gyllenhaal deserved an Oscar nom for this performance, easily on par with Cooper in American Sniper or Keaton in Birdman.

Life of Crime - I gotta admit, I went into this film blind, knowing little about it except it featured Jennifer Anniston and mos Def. And when Mos Def's character is introduced as Ordell Robbie, I did a double take. Sam Jackson's character from Jackie Brown? wha??? turns out a lot of characters from that film are in this movie, since the novel upon which it is based was by Elmore Leonard, and takes place in the same universe as "Rum Punch" (though in 1978, prior to events in Rum Punch). so in typical Leonard fashion, this is a film filled with complex characters, sparse but witty dialogue, and dark humor. Isla Fisher stands out as the naïve Melanie, mistress of Tim Robbins's sleazy rich guy. As does Mark Boone Junior as the unrepentant neo Nazi who abets the initial kidnapping of the rich wife of the rich guy.

The Station Agent - take 3 very talented actors (Peter Dinklage, Patricia Clarkson, and Bobby Cannavale) and throw them into a lot of scenes together. pretty much the premise of this film, where Dinklage's character inherits a defunct railroad station from a friend, and must venture out of his world of emotional isolation to connect with real people with real problems.

also enjoyed the Jen Kirkman stand up special ("I'm Going to Die Alone"), she has a very refreshing take on female issues, tending not to complain about as much as viciously attack those who annoy her.

do your own research and draw your own conclusions . . . must be nice to lose an election and still win a seat (AHEM UPWARD STATE!)

FIFA's #2 already flipping.......

I just wonder how deep this will actually get. Buying elections in other countries? They need to just blow up FIFA now, get entirely new blood in there (what the PSU BoT should have done) and get a fresh start. The Russia and Qatar world cups were obviously bought and I'm wondering now if they ever come to pass. Qatar for certain simply because they are pretty much killing their slave labor to get stadiums built. Russia is a bit to close in the calendar to back out now, so they may keep their cup.

Sepp will eventually go down, but I'm wondering how many more like Warner will flip on him and that whole corrupt organization. It seems like the arrests last week were just the very tip of the iceberg.
