OT: Memorial Day weekend movie recommendation

"One thing worries me -- will people believe me? Will they want to hear about it? Or will they want to forget the whole thing happened?" Lt j.g. Richard Strandberg (USN)...river patrol...Mekong Delta...May 1967 - May 1968

Lt. Strandberg got the answer he feared: people tend to forget. In fact, those in power are highly invested in forgetting. Worse yet, they appear to have learned nothing.

The men who so valiantly fought...and never lost a battle...in that no-win war deserve better. The movie linked below tells their story in letters they wrote home set against the backdrop of striking video footage and the music of the day. For my money, it's the most powerful and authentic war film ever made.

Memorial Day is about remembering. This movie is in memory of the men who fought in Vietnam...their courage...their sacrifice...and their tragedy:

BT returning starters in 2024 - per Athlon.

BT returning starters for 2024 - per Athlon:

IA 17 surprise team? (if an offensive pulse is detected. )

OSU 15 shaping up as another strong year

Several middle of the road teams have 14 - including MN, NE, NW, RU (possible fast starts) Which of these guys has the best year????

PSU 10 Expect D to be strong just not AS strong as we're used to. But the O could surprise to the upside if a couple WRs emerge.
Also IL, MSU, MD have 10.

Michigan: 5 (Offense: 1, Defense: 4) (Big expectations considering their very heavy losses and likely sputtering O)

WA 2 Huge drop off expected. But I wouldnt be surprised if they outperformed expectations.

Other than OSU, nobody stands out with their returning starters, a common indicator of who is likely to have above average records.

At the other end, UM stands out with just 5. making these guys likely to take a few lumps, and perhaps upsets. Too bad we dont play them this year.

PS Outside the BT, with PSU ties, VATech has 19 returning starters. Could be a pretty good year for the Hokies.

Interesting PSU targets upgraded by Rivals

The following PSU targets have been upgraded from 3stars to 4stars per the latest Rivals player evaluations:

TE - A. Olesh
DE - J. Loftin
DE - Y. Kemajou
CB - B. Finney

The good news is that we are in a good spot for all 4. Encouraging.

Rivals still has S Kainoa Winston rated as a 5.7 3star. As most of you know, QB Matt Zollers has soared up to #70 in the top 100. I know we are still trying to flip him.

Do you consider Penn State a blue blood in college football?

Do you consider Penn State a blue blood in college football? Many people interpret the term blue blood differently. To me, it's belonging to the original aristocracy yet others would consider it as part of the current elite ruling class.

When I see Penn State left off blue blood lists I always counter with the following:

It's been written that Penn State football has two national championships and that's used against Penn State in consideration for blue blood status. The NCAA recognizes Penn State football as having FOUR national championships: 1911, 1912, 1982 and 1986 and don't get me started about 1968 and 1994. The NCAA's own website lists Penn State as co-national champions in 1911 and 1912. The link is below.

Since Penn State won not just one but TWO two national championships in the early days of college football that's certainly noteworthy for those claiming long-time early-on blue blood status because that is:
7 years before Notre Dame won their first one in 1919
13 years before Alabama won their first one in 1925
19 years before USC won their first one in 1931
30 years before Ohio State won their first one in 1942
38 years before Oklahoma won their first one in 1950
39 years before Tennessee won their first one in 1951
51 years before Texas won their first one in 1963
58 years before Nebraska won their first one in 1970.

For those that state a football program needs to be relevant in every decade:
Penn State football had multiple 11+ win seasons during the '60s, '70s, '80s, '90s, '00s and '10s, a feat Ohio State, Michigan, Nebraska, Alabama, Texas, LSU, Georgia, USC, Notre Dame, Auburn, Clemson, FSU, Florida, Miami, Oklahoma, Tennessee nor Texas A&M can claim.

Nelly Korda

for those who don't follow, she's been the best thing to women's golf in history. She's won something like 6 or 7 tournaments this season and has played lights out. So we come to this week where the US Women's Open is being played. the media has hyped her in golf circles to get ratings up.

She went out and scored a TEN on her second hole, a par three, where she put the ball in the water three times.

Demark MVP BIG 33

WR! WR! WR! It's all we hear!

Well Tyseer Denmark lit up the Big 33 game and won MVP.

Denmark: 4 rec 95 yds 3 TDs - 3 punt returns for 52 yds

All 3 Denmarks TDs came first half. All nice catches. Two were 50/50 balls he won. Other TD he caught a ball thrown little high over the middle where he went up plucked it out of the air for a TD. Some or all of his TD catches were against 4 star CB Kevin Humes who is committed to UMD.

His stats would have been even better but PA was killing them 31-0 at half and it appears 2nd half they took their foot off the gas.
