Recruiting rankings pre-Internet

For those who tracked wrestling recruiting back in the days before the Internet explosion, online video and the proliferation of "national" tournaments, what were the main sources people used? I can't imagine there were many accurate sources of information 20, 30 or 40 years ago. I know for football I always bought a copy of Street & Smith's annual but it was pretty bad.

Couple comments about OSU

Side note......My tickets are pretty close to the visiting bench so I get to see some fan/coach/wrestler interaction.

1)Tom Ryan might have been an ass during the meet but before the start he was having fun with many random PSU fans. Took a few pics and selfies with some students.

2)When checking out the packed wrestling room, I was stuck standing in the middle of the hall when Keshawn Hayes taps me on the shoulder and said "excuse me sir" and then "thank you" with a big smile on his face. Just seemed like a genuine nice kid.

3)I walked by Kyle Snyder in between matches and congratulated him on Yarygin. He smiled, said thank you and gave me a thumbs up. I noticed him giving the thumbs up quite a few times through the night. Just guessing quite a few fans also congratulated him.

4)The lion mascot was mocking Kollin Moore warming up before his match. Kollin seemed to get a kick out of it.

5)The Jordan's just seem like good guys. Kids you would want your daughter bringing home.

6)It's hard to say this because they do wrestle for tOSU but they really did seem like good kids and I wish them the best going forward except if it has anything to do with PSU.

PSU vs tOSU

Rutgers is in the books, Saturday is the dual everyone has been waiting for, let's get some predictions (I'm assuming Nolf isn't wrestling until PSU says otherwise)

125: tOSU
133: tOSU
141: PSU
149: PSU
157: tOSU
165: PSU
174: PSU
184: tOSU
197: tOSU
Heavy: tOSU

I think Martin beats Nickal but you guys have too many guys that bonus.

We Are ....

- expecting the Gophers to have about as much success as the Vikings did when they visited the Keystone State earlier this week
- curious to see who takes the mat for PSU at 125 and at 197
- sorry to have to root against a PA wrestler, Lizak
- still celebrating what Willie said about Minny fan, Jammenz, a year ago
- wishing we were going to be at the dual

... Penn State!

Our girlfriend Jemele Hill is leaving SC6

She is going to The Undefeated.

Funny, once she saw which way the wind was blowing, she went after MSU pretty hard. Took long enough. There is only one thing worse than a self-righteous hypocrite, and that is a self-righteous hypocrite with no backbone.

Rank the current #1 guys at each weight by probability to win a title

I have Zain, Nolf, Snyder, and Gross as prohibitive favorites to win titles this year, either due to their individual greatness and/or lack of competitive strength at the weight class. Doesn't mean they are standing on the podium already, but I like their chances. I'd ranked these 4 weights in order of likelihood to win as:

285
149
157
133

As for the remainder of weights, I'd rank them as follows from most likely for the current #1 to win the title to least likely.

184 Two horse race imo. PD3 could make it interesting, but the longer he's out, the less likely
197 Moore is the cream of the crop right now, but his wins this year show weakness to me
174 Zahid imo has earned the #1 ranking. Despite that, both Hall and Bo can win the title
165 Cenzo and Imar are the class of this weight, although not counting out Massa
125 Suriano is a great wrestler, but so is Cruz, Lee, and Nato. This is a dogfight weight
141 Meredith is of equal talent with Jack, Yianni, and Heil. Any could win.

OT: Why I love France....#25... the Air France pre-flight safety video....

Saw this recently on my flight to/from Paris. It's just *so* French; some of you may get a kick out of it...

Also, I shared previously that a woman gave birth on my flight back to New York - below is an article about what happened....

https://thepointsguy.com/2018/01/baby-born-flight-air-france-la-premiere/

Dr. Sij Hemal’s flight from Paris (CDG) back to New York (JFK) began with the expectation of Champagne and then maybe some jet lag upon landing. Hemal turned on a movie and settled in to what he thought would be a quiet flight back home. Little did he know that the journey would be one he’d never forget.

About halfway through the flight, a flight attendant made an announcement over the intercom asking if there were any doctors on board the aircraft because a woman had just gone into labor. Toyin Ogundipe, a banker who splits her time between the United Kingdom and Nigeria, started going into labor about halfway through the flight, which happened on December 17, 2017.

The flight crew on board Air France flight 22 — which was nearing the southern coast of Greenland — had to make a decision: Make an emergency diversion to a US military base in the Azores or continue on to New York?

Dr. Hemal, who happened to be sitting next to pediatrician Dr. Susan Shepard, told the crew that he could assist with an on board birth and that the 777-300ER should continue on to New York.

“Her contractions were about 10 minutes apart, so the pediatrician (Dr. Susan Shepherd) and I began to monitor her vital signs and keep her comfortable,” Hemal said in a post on the Cleveland Clinic’s website, where he’s a second-year urology resident.

The two doctors said it would be better if Ogundipe — who was also traveling with her four-year-old daughter — be moved to the first-class cabin since there was far more room. Air France’s first-class product is known as La Première and features one of the nicest seats in the sky, though it’s only available on select 777-300ERs and the A380. TPG has flown La Première twice and had a great experience both times.

Ogundipe’s contractions started getting closer together as the doctors treated her with any available tools from the aircraft’s sparse first-aid kit.

“That’s when we knew we were going to deliver on the plane,” said Hemal, who also remarked that he wasn’t worried to assist given that he’d actually helped with seven deliveries during his studies.

After about 30 minutes of pushing, Ogundipe gave birth to a healthy baby boy, who she named Jake. Jake nursed for the rest of the flight to JFK, where they were immediately met by medical personnel and taken to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center in New York.

“I was relaxed because I knew I was in safe hands,” said the new mom. “They did everything a doctor or midwife would have done if I was in the labor room in the hospital. Even better, if you ask me.” Ogundipe was released the same day and recovered with her children at a friend’s home in New Jersey.

According to the Daily Mail, since he was born in US airspace, Jake Ogundipe is a US citizen.

Hemal continued on to his final destination, Cleveland (CLE), and received a travel voucher and bottle of Champagne from Air France.

“So much could have gone wrong, but it didn’t. Being on that particular flight, sitting next to a pediatrician … it’s like it was destiny,” said Hemal. “Thanks to God, everything worked out.”

According to FlightRadar24, the 77W flew back to Paris later that day. We reached out to Air France to ask what was required to clean up the delivery after the flight. An airline spokesperson wouldn’t confirm whether one was needed or not, but said that if a special cleaning of a specific area of the aircraft was needed, it uses a company to assist with that task.

Wow....did not release how large PSU's endowment has grown

I was looking at college endowments because I was curious about MSU's standing. In 2016 they had somewhere around $2.25 billion. It actually dropped a bit from $2.7 billion in 2015. So far they've opened a $10 million fund. I think they're going to have to go quite a bit higher than that.

What was shocking to me is that in 2007 Penn State had a $1.59 billion system-wide endowment, and by 2016 hat had grown to $3.602 billion. So we have an unprecedented to that point scandal that cost hundreds of millions in payouts, legal fees and fines. We fire our iconic coach, our president, our VP of Finance and our AD and we still more than doubled the endowment over that time period? How is that possible? Some like Texas had much larger absolute gains over the time period, but none more than doubled their endowments. What's the story there?
