Remember recruit Lonnie White? Update

He's now the number 19 prospect in the Pirates' minor league system. Maybe he should have played football. We certainly need WRs.

Scouting grades: Hit: 45 | Power: 50 | Run: 70 | Arm: 50 | Field: 60 | Overall: 40

When the Pirates went over slot to sign White away from playing football and baseball at Penn State in 2021, they knew they’d have to be patient with an athlete from a cold-weather state who had been splitting his focus among multiple sports. What they didn’t know is how hard it would be to keep him on the field. A number of injuries limited White to 11 total games in 2021 and 2022 but even though he didn’t get started until June of 2023, he saw his first extended action, mostly with full-season Bradenton, allowing him to finally to show a little bit of what the fuss was all about.

White has teased with his physicality and athleticism since signing; in 2023, he got to put all of it to use for 61 games. Considering how much development time he missed, it was encouraging he shook off the rust and kept his strikeout rate under 30 percent while also drawing a lot of walks. He can be quick to the ball and find the barrel with pretty good power, with more to come.

The former wide receiver is an easily plus runner, so his ability to get on base should help him be a threat to steal. It also helps him cover a lot of ground in center field, where he has a chance to be an excellent defender for a long time. He still has a ways to go, but last year was the first positive steps forward he’s been able to take. If he can put the injuries behind him and continue to stay on the field, he could really start sharpening all of those tools.

White was the No. 74 overall recruit in 2021 as a wide receiver -- three spots ahead of future NFL first-rounder Xavier Worthy among wideouts -- and committed to play both football and baseball at Penn State before the Pirates gave him an over-slot $1.5 million bonus. The COVID pandemic cut short his senior season with Malvern (Pa.) Prep, but White, who played quarterback as a junior, picked up five touchdowns and 369 yards (21.7 per reception) in four games.

Could Andrew Olesh be a wideout and play this fall?

Catching up on recruiting news, just saw this guy's highlights. Just incredible quickness, lateral movement and raw speed for someone 6-5. Based on his weight he is probably 2 1/2 years from being able to play TE in the B1G but geez, he could be a wide receiver now. He has size, speed, route-running skill and huge hands. As a wideout he looks ready to play right now.

Assuming the guy's true position is TE, his goal would be to play TE in the NFL, is there any precedent for playing wideout for a season or two and then transitioning to TE as he puts on mass. Or are the positions too different? Seems to me more than ever the NFL has appetite for Gesicki-type TEs who are really more wideouts than TEs, who are optimized for running routes and aren't going to be used too much in run blocking.

You want to keep Olesh's options open, but geez, PSU could use the help in the passing game now.

2024-25 Schedule & Video/Audio Streaming Options

Fellow Lion Fans:

Here's the Link to the Schedule & Video/Audio Streaming Options for the 2024-25 season as we now know (or assume) :D

=> Click Here <=

A couple of important items/assumptions to make you aware of:

1. Important: the "GoPSUSports" iOS app is now obsolete, you now need the "Nittany Lions" App to be able to stream GoPSU
2. Important: the over-air broadcast/radio stream this year looks like WOWY 97.7FM vs last year's Legends. (both on iHeart)
3. Confirmed: that non-conference duals at home will be streamed on BTN+ as in the past
4. Confirmed: that Journeyman National Duals will be streamed PPV on Rokfin as in the past
5. Reminder: there is another tab on the file that shares the current & long-range B1G & NCAA tournament cities/dates, based on current rotations,
6. Reminder: green text is confirmed by official sources, red text is assumption based on past experience, but subject to change

As more information becomes available, it will be updated. Be gentle on me for any errors you find, my old, feeble mind is not as sharp as it used to be!

Here's looking forward to another fun-filled season... ending in hardware!!

For the Glory.... Go Lions!!!

Ugh, not looking good for the victims in the DC plane crash last night

For those who missed it a military Blackhawk helicopter crashed into the side of an airliner as the airliner was coming in for a landing and still over the Potomac river. Apparently there is video on X (formerly twitter) of the collision.

There's a lot to unpack with Penn State's dominant performance against Iowa. Let's get to it:

125 ⚡️ - Lilledahl showed his offensive potential. There's a reason why he's called Lightning Luke. Like many, I thought Cruz was going to be able to keep it closer. Wrong.

133 🐑 - Bummer that Davis wasn't able to go. This would've been a great measuring stick to see where he's at. Props to McHenry as the sacrificial lamb and not getting pinned.

141 👷‍♂️ - Bartlett was never in any danger in his trademark workmanlike win. Schreiver doesn't give up many points.

149 🕺- This was a fun match! Parco's and Van Ness's styles lends themselves to a lot of fireworks. Van Ness brought the funk and broke open what started as a close match.

157 ✊ - Teemer spent a helluva lot of time hand checking just waiting for Kasak to make a mistake. Kasak wrestled a very smart and patient match and made Teemer pay leading to an iconic finish. I'm going to miss Kasak when he's wrestling for Rutger next season.

165 🌪 - What has been a meat grinder of a weight class for many years has turned into one clearly dominant favorite and everyone else. While the tech didn't surprise me, I wasn't expecting Psycho to completely break Caliendo. Michael is going to have PTSD after that one.

174 ⚒️ - This was yet another match I was looking forward to just to see where Haines was at versus a very physical opponent in PK. He didn't disappoint.

184 🐐 - For all the whining on HR/GIA/HB about the stall calls, I thought they were well deserved. While the score was close, this match was never in doubt. CStar makes it look easy when it really isn't. That said, Angelo showed he has a bright future and held up well as a true freshman against one of the goats.

197 🤏 - Buchanan showed why he is the favorite. However, Barr is not that far off. The quick escape by Buchanan was the difference maker in a match that otherwise would've likely went to OT.

Heavy 💪🏾 - The Kraken was released in this one. Kerk simply out athleted the football player with superior quickness and strength.
