“President Eric Barron fall 2020 welcome message”

So summarize. Just pay full tuition even though you are not receiving anywhere near the full service. Freshman in dorms you are basically in jail and we are going to blame you for anything and everything that goes wrong. We know that we are taking away many of the students civil liberties based on what we forced them to sign and can suspend or expel you at any moment, but we do whatever we want and you cannot stop us. Just shut up, do exactly what we tell you, and pay your bills.

Not bad, but I prefer to quote Nelson from The Simpson’s summary better “ Ha Ha “.

I know that Barron is not very popular on this board but I don’t know what you expect him to do. PSU is trying to have as much on campus instruction as possible. We cannot act like there is not a dangerous pandemic. You would have blasted him if PSU went all online. It is also not accurate to say that he cancelled football. The presidents of the Big 10 did. There is no evidence that he was leading the charge to cancel or postpone the season.

What is expected of Barron? He's already demonstrated it would be a fool's errand to expect anything from him...are you forgetting his review of the fact-freeh report?

Unlike many on this board, instead of focusing on Warren who controls little I'm more focused on Barron. My issue isn't that football was postponed/cancelled, I believe that decision can be justified. People may not like that decision, but I feel at least a case can be made for that decision. What I don't understand is how they can make that decision for football but at the same time open up campus. I don't see any conceivable way how general campus life with in person learning can possibly be as controlled of an environment as what the football team and athletes in other sports would be doing.

The uncontrolled general student body is where the real risk lies, but the decisions to close up shop were made for athletes only. This is a massive contradiction. Either shut down both, or open both... there can be justifications for either of those decisions. Closing campus and keeping sports up and running is still contradictory, but can be somewhat justified by the additional control that comes via the structure in the sports programs. Of the 4 possible decisions, closing sports and opening campus is the one that makes the least amount of sense yet that is what was done.

I'm certainly not donating any money, but my only objection at the moment is that they opened the campus at all. Everything should be on line at the moment.

Please highlight in my post where the football is said. Keep looking, keep looking, keep looking. Oh, I didn't say anything at all about football.

When Barron initialing announced going back to school he said that 50% of the classes would be in person, that is down to about 5%. And most of that 45% went on line after the tuition bill was paid, you think that is coincidence. How come no discount on tuition considering all the services that I cannot utilize on campus. How come everybody isn't paying world campus level tuition considering that is what students are getting? For the kids, they are told to stay in their dorm room literally like a jail. They must go over to the dining commons and pick up a bag meal and go back to room to eat it. cannot do to a sporting event because there is none. cannot go on campus to a cultural event because there is none. cannot join a club as their is none. cannot go downtown as restaurants are at 25% and law against standing in line. Not supposed to leave your dorm room or allow anybody into your dorm. So literally, what is the expectation of students in dorms. Oh and by the way, Barron forced students to sign an agreement which says if they are caught without a mask even when walking around campus with nobody within 20' of them (science be damned as almost zero risk of outside transmission as witnessed by no mass issues with the protests) or if they are caught in a room with more than 10 people, they can be suspended or expelled.

The in-person class instruction plan was a ruse in order to collect tuition. Had they announced on-line only from the beginning many would have chosen a different approach like community college or take a year off. One by one the "in-person" classes are disappearing at a high rate.

Should be fun when Barron announces all classes are on-line yet the dorms will remain open and no refunds will be given should you decide to return home.

Sure looks that way...and he has not earned the benefit of the doubt.

I just don’t understand some of you people. No matter what stupid, insensitive, foolish, greedy money hungry or witless move Barron makes you guys find something to complain about.

Just remember that barren’s got this.

Is it me? We hear all this talk from academia about transparency, inclusivity, dialog, sensitivity to the feelings of others, and then when it comes to student/parent/athlete/coaches/faculty and policy all we get are pronouncements from the President’s office.

As the president of the university, he is supposed to be above the fear mongering in our media, and rather make science and data-driven decisions.

I know that is borderline unreasonable to ask, but that is why he gets the big bucks.

Thanks. I’ve been wondering the past several years why he got paid the big bucks. Couldn’t figure it out.
