Don't look now, but the #1 seed is Nathan Lackman. #2 seed is Matt Lackman (both BECA grads). I don't know that two brothers have ever squared off for an NCAA title, but it could happen tomorrow if things go to seed.
Better yet, both hit the podium in identical garb and stand on top together. Let the authorities sort it out. What would be the outcome of they both refused to come out for the final?
I'm pretty sure they both had to know this was a possibility and made plans accordinglyUpdate: Nathan wins 7-3; Matt wins 5-2. It's happening! Finals begin at 7pm tonight.
Thanksgiving in the basement doesn't count as a tournament does it? 🙂😇😝.My twin and I wrestled in one tournament at same weight and both reached the finals. After that, i always went up one weight so we didn't need to do that again.
Will do.Obviously, they need to wrestle. Best man win, then hug afterwards.
Matter (or someone else), let us know the result. Thanks
Could be like the Moore brothers.. when Josh and Scott were wrestling in tournaments as kids there were more than one or two contests that wereestopped because the were swinging. One was DQed once for stepping on his brother's back.I'm pretty sure they both had to know this was a possibility and made plans accordingly
So he kicked your butt? 😁My twin and I wrestled in one tournament at same weight and both reached the finals. After that, i always went up one weight so we didn't need to do that again.
Wait, There are two of you out there? PreposterousMy twin and I wrestled in one tournament at same weight and both reached the finals. After that, i always went up one weight so we didn't need to do that again.
The other apparently has a very different make up,I have met both in person. Though both are great people!Wait, There are two of you out there? Preposterous
If a trophy is awarded then I say yes.Thanksgiving in the basement doesn't count as a tournament does it? 🙂😇😝.
As I mentioned in another thread, my younger cousin was 4-time D3 All American at Delaware Valley. He was a runner up in ‘88 and ‘90 and a National Champion in ‘89 all at 158 LBS. I would have loved to see what he could have done in a higher division.Interesting from the 125 class at D3: Jacob Decatur (former top recruit for tOSU) lost in the finals. D3 isn't easy.
My weight class in our conference in my sophomore year had the 1 and 3 placers at Nationals. Next year, the top guy was named OW at the EIWAs (Wilkes switched over to D1 for the 1975 season). In the old days, more than one D3 wrestler made noise at the D1 tourney.

I didn't know that. I thought it was just Division 2 champs that qualified for D1 nationals.D3 winners used to qualify for D1 championships and there have been D3 champs who then won the D1 championship.
For as great as the wrestling has always been in New Jersey it is kind of mind boggling how bad Rutgers is at it.Two guys have won D3 and D1 championships (in the same year, as it turns out). Ken Mallory from Montclair State in NJ won in 1978 (https://nwhof.org/national-wrestling-hall-of-fame/bio/441) and Tom Martucci of the College of NJ - Trenton State at the time - in 1981 (https://nwhof.org/national-wrestling-hall-of-fame/champions-database?wrestler=7137). I saw the Martucci win in person in 1981 at Princeton's Jadwin Gym (my wife and I drove to Princeton from NYC and bought tickets at the box office that same night). He beat a guy from Temple in the final, which was pretty unlikely in its own right.

Oh. I can see where I gave a misimpression. The two guys both won a D3 title and a D1 title in the same year - albeit they accomplished it in different years. I don't know if second placers from D3 got to go to the D1 tourney. Turns out they were eligible in some years and situations..
How is that the same year?
Martucci actually started out as a D1 wrestler but he transferred. Temple 190 was tony mantella. I am guessing his son was a piaa champ rocky mantella.

I found a really detailed breakdown of non-D1 wrestlers performances at the D1 championships:
