1. Allar plays well. See we'd have made the playoff last year if Franklin had started him.
2. Allar is a bust. See why we can't develop QB, I said he needed meaningful snaps in '22.
3. Allar gets hurt. Bo is mediocre at best. There is no excuse for an inexperienced QB room like this in Franklin's tenth year. Not with what we're paying him.
4. Team plays very well if not flawless........played well today, but no excuse for that bomb we laid at Iowa in 2021 or vs Illinois.

Matt McGloin predicting 9-3....possible 10-2. Seems to think Illinois or Iowa will be a loss along with Michigan. Opines that this could be the year vs OSU.
Gotta disagree with him Illinois lost their D coordinator and their offense stinks, their QB and RB are gone. Iowa still has Bryan Ferentz... If we lose to either I'd be shocked.
He isn't sold on Allar instantly walking on water as a starter. My translation of the pod cast. Hence the threat of an early season hiccup.
I think there is going to be a great deal of consternation with loyal PSU fans this year. Expectations are pretty high IMO. I don't think there's an appreciation for how difficult it will be to equal or better 11-2.
11-2 would be an excellent record. There is tbe potential for a game better. Assuming Allar is healthy (or if Pribula can surprise in upside), will not be worse than 3 losses.
Will be a fun to watch. Enjoy the competition.
Why the low expectations? We were 11-2 this past year and will be better next season.
Because it’s very hard to improve on 11-2 especially in our division. If we were in any other division in the country, I would agree. However, since OSU never has a down year and Michigan doesn’t seem to have down years anymore either, improving on 11-2 is extremely difficult. That would be like having Georgia and Bama in the same division in the SEC and expecting another team in the division to improve on an 11-2 season.
So much hinges on Allar. Last year we would have had a third loss vs Purdue without Clifford and an experienced QB directing that final drive. If Allar makes a bunch of first year starter mistakes then we could lose to Illinois or Iowa or both (yikes) along with O$U and Mich. But if he is the real deal then we could definitely beat Mich in HV and have a legitimate shot at O$U.
Lost to Pitt and beat OSU in 2016. OSU lost to Iowa in 2017 (blowout) won the conference ....lost to Purdue in 2018 went 13-1.

His rationale was early season concern for an inexperienced QB on the road (Illinois).
He has concerns with Iowa as well....with both games being potential matchup issues (running game and good defense).
Here's a thought. Let's assume that Clifford was the better QB last year (that's why he started).
Why? Better physical tools than Allar? No way!
A better pre snap QB and more consistent execution of the mental aspects of the position.
We all assume Allar will improve in both the physical and mental aspects of the game.
Does that automatically make him better than Cliff in 2023? Seems like many are just assuming that's how it works.......it isn't.
Show me is, IMO, the best way to approach any season. It keeps people from looking foolish and then looking for blame.
