Do you see Mr. Coffee going "best available" even if it's a defensive lineman on the board? - @JPWaxer

Maccagnan should be sued for general manager malpractice if he drafted a defensive lineman with the No. 6 overall pick. He has way too many other areas of need.

Let’s also ditch this “best available player” myth. Yes, Maccagnan made the sound choice to select Leonard Williams two years ago despite having a deep defensive line. But was Christian Hackenberg the best player available on the Jets board when the Jets took him with the 51st overall pick last year?

God, I hope not.

Jets source on QB Christian Hackenberg: ‘He will never make it'

Rumors abound Christian Hackenberg is either developing nicely or not at all...what's the real story? 6th pick will tell the story? - @yayankee

Hackenberg needs at least one more year of development before he can even be considered an option to be a starter at this level.

He’ll be learning his second NFL system under new offensive coordinator John Morton, which doesn’t exactly help out his cause. Hackenberg has the right mindset, but there’s a lot of work that needs to be done. He had his fair share of struggles in the intermediate passing game in practice from what I understand.

He’s taking the right steps to improve. You definitely can’t fault his work ethic and desire to get better, that’s for sure.

do I need to get my popcorn out?? Where's the Judge?? Where's Bushwood?

Christian Hackenberg may move around some between teams in the NFL, but I he'll be doing fine in a couple of years.
Wow. From the sounds of numerous reports, and the fact that he didn't even get one real game rep with a disastrous crew of QB's surrounding him last year, I'm of the mindset that he is far more likely to be out of the NFL after next year than moving around to teams looking for a back up. Big, strong, huge arm, but if you can't throw accurately you won't make it. I hope it works out, but I think next year is make or break for him. The NFL is unforgiving and rarely, if ever, interested in any kind of project player. It has to happen quickly for these guys.

Just a reminder....he's 9 months older than Trace McSorley.

I'm not sure Hackenberg will make it, but he still does ---- for a slight bit longer --- have time on his side. 22nd birthday is next Tuesday. If he starts ANY game in 2017, he'll still be 6+ months younger than Tom Brady was in his first NFL start.

Brady, Manning... Hackenberg? Jets' Brandon Marshall sees a similarity

Even though Brandon Marshall said he’s done being a player evaluator to the media, he decided to make an exception on Thursday.

Speaking to Mike Francesa on WFAN at the Super Bowl, Marshall was very complimentary of Jets second-round pick Christian Hackenberg.

“I love the kid. Big arm,” Marshall told Francesa. “He’s so smart.”

But Hackenberg’s talents go beyond what he’s capable of on the field, according to Marshall. Everyone knows that he has prototypical size and a big arm but Marshall said that the former Penn State QB is also a tireless worker in the classroom.

Marshall went as far as to compare the Hackenberg’s worth ethic to two all-time great quarterbacks.

“I mean, from Day 1, (he’d say), ‘Brandon, hey, when are you watching film? I want to go sit in that room with you and watch film.’

“That’s what I love about quarterbacks. That’s what I love, like the guys who have that Tom Brady, that Peyton Manning leadership quality, the guys that are gym rats — that’s Hackenberg.”

Marshall also believes that Hackenberg received a bad wrap in the media this past season and that people shouldn’t believe the stories about his accuracy troubles.

“It’s hard to evaluate a quarterback when you’re going against the scout team every day,” Marshall said. “He barely threw any routes.

“When you’re going against the scout team every day and the guys know the cards. It’s hard for him, the defense knows where the ball is going. It’s hard to judge a quarterback in practice in his first year.”

This will be a big offseason for Hackenberg. The Jets were very upfront about their desire to give him a redshirt year last season to hit the reset button, but in year two he needs to see the field. Not only will Hackenberg need to improve his fundamentals, but he’ll also be learning a new offense under John Morton.

“The kid has a chance,” Marshall said. “Obviously we know he has talent, he has an arm. If he continues to work, he’ll be alright.”

Right...the odds are always against a college QB making it in the NFL. That's just the way it is. There's reason why Brady was taken in the sixth round and why, even though the patriots are considered geniuses for taking him, the passed on him five times.

Hack has some clear weaknesses in his game (accuracy, pocket presence). he also has a ton of experience and a a very strong arm.

So we'll see. His chances, like any second round pick at QB, are probably 10% or less.

you should be banned for making a post like this (TIC).

LOL, you F'er sluggo, give the kid a break. :) I look forward for all of our young student athletes to do well in whatever they endeavor.
I agree and that's what the TIC was for. I don't understand why any PSU fan would root against Hack. His success or lack there of, will be used either for or against us in recruiting. Why people don't understand this, is beyond me. And some of them even think they are recruiting guru's!!
