Iowa was definitely the favorite after dominating the Big 10 in 2020. I’ve read plenty of Iowa fans stating we most likely we would have won. Maybe a few of the crazies are claiming it but the sane fans were just disappointed we didn’t get a chance.

Yep, because Iowa has this strange thing about peaking for Big Tens. PSU usually peaks for nationals,

In 2020, no doubt the injury bug had hit PSU hard and no doubt Iowa was the favorite on paper.

Can’t ignore PSU was only 4th at Big Tens.

But I’d give PSU at least a reasonable chance in 2020 at crowning NCAA champs at 133 (RBY), 141 (NLee), 165 (Cenzo), 174 (Hall) and 184 (Brooks).

Additionally, Shakur was getting healthy / rounding into form and could have scored meaningful points.

2 things caught my attention about these results.

1. They don't show home field advantage quite like I expected. Home and away wins are evenly split 50/50. Iowa has done better at home than away (3 of its 5 wins), whereas 3 of PSU's 5 wins were away. You have to go back to 2015 for Iowa's last win at PSU.

2. PSU tends to win these duals by 10+ points whereas Iowa's margin of victory tends to be tighter.

• Average total margin of victory: 10.4 points
• PSU's average margin of victory: 11.6 points
• Iowa’s average margin of victory: 9.2 points (skewed by a 23 point blowout)
• Biggest margin of victory: 23 points (Iowa won 29-6 at home in 2010)
• Smallest margin of victory: 2 points (Iowa won 19-17 at home in 2020)
• Wins by 1-5 points: 1
• Wins by 6-10 points: 5
• Wins by 11-15 points: 3
• Wins by more than 15 points: 1

Inescapable conclusion: PSU will win by 20+ points at home this time to offset the indignity of 2010.
