Starting this thread back up!

It's officially transfer portal season (AGAIN) and there's a lot of movement expected this spring portal window, with a lot of teams expected to spend some serious money before the new revenue sharing deal gets put into place and others like Penn State having to cut down their rosters to the new projected 105 total cap.

To make things easier for you, we here at Happy Valley Insider have decided to make this the one stop shop for everything Penn State Football and the transfer portal this offseason.

Below you can see which players have entered the portal, who's committed to joining the Nittany Lions via the portal and which prospects that the staff has offered so far.

Don't see PSU bringing in a starting capable player at any of those positions. There are too many collectives of other teams that will outbid PSU. Reality.
If PSU really wants a certain player, they'll have the money to compete with almost any school. Another PSU site has reported that PSU's NIL funds have grown substantially this year.

Glad to hear that. I was not aware. It will probably take big $ for a starter. Perhaps the PSU family culture can tilt in their favor if bids are close between teams.

Yep, but you run the risk of upsetting existing players if you pay the incoming 3* kid more than the existing 4* kids.

I wonder if it makes sense to have 105 players on the roster. Do the bottom 40 get scholarships but no NIL and revenue sharing?

This is where NIL has become "bastardized." It never was meant for the long snapper or a second team special teams player to get a salary. Rather, it was intended for the few stars, such as an Allar, Singleton, Warren, Carter, to be paid for appearing in commercials, endorsing products, having their names on the backs of jerseys that are sold in shops, and being used in video games.

Now, you have college teams that have to worry about meeting a payroll like an NFL team. Obviously, that's an untenable situation and something needs to be done, such as a cap.

I just read that Florida has 98% of it s roster secure via NIL...as you said not sustainable. This is coming completely off the rails.

That's absurd and a total waste of money, as most likely 2/3 of those players never will make a significant contribution, and the same percentage probably will transfer. Sooner or later, the people who are spending or throwing away their money like this are going to realize the absurdity of it all.

My Dad has been contributing to the PSU football program since the 80's and has had enough. I'm sure there are many like him.

Need a WR a LB and a stud/starting DT if one’s available.
Good luck with those. Everyone wants WR's and the $$ programs will pick over any with a pulse. A LB that could beat out Robinson and/or Wyle at Mike would be very costly and likely as available as hens teeth, not to mention the impact that would have on all the talented young Mike LB's now competing for playing time - Robinson, Wylie, Jackson, Speca. And from what Franklin has said he's pretty happy with Durant, Ford and Gilliam, and is really only looking for the next 2 or 3 for the 5/6 DT rotation with a number of talented DT's now competing for those sports. A starting DT, one that could beat out Durant or Ford, or even Gilliam for the 3rd spot, would have mega-$ thrown at him by the $$ programs just like the top WR's did in the early transfer portal window. Nice wish list but I don't see it happening.

Maybe an experienced DT from a small program that would compete for the 4th, 5th DT spot. Franklin and Barnes did a super job finding Ford and it took Ford a couple seasons to get where he's going to be a big contributor. I'll be very surprised if Franklin can find a LB or WR that could come in and make an impact. Hope I'm wrong but that's how I see the competition for the few top 10 program starter quality players that will be available.

I'm also more of a believer that Franklin and Poindexter mght possibly finding an experienced Safety to come in as depth. Not an NFL/great athlete, but a solid DB from a smaller program with the experience to play some and help the young Safety's develop.

Have a close friend that has had season tickets since the early 1970's. A frat brother of his that made mega-$$ contributes big $$ to the NLC and all my friend has to do is pay for his tickets face value. On the 45 yard line. His buddy also has seats in a box up top and they both get numbered parking spots right next to the stadium. But my friend recently told me that he and his big contributor buddy are seriously considering bagging out of the whole thing.

Because we're four months away from camp, most likely a number one caliber d-tackle or wide receiver isn't going to be available for any program. All PSU needs is an experienced, veteran d-tackle who can provide upwards of fifteen to twenty competent snaps a game, and possibly a receiver similar to Tinsley; these kind of players are affordable certainly for a PSU.

Also, don't forget that PSU has spent a lot of NIL money to retain a lot of players on this roster. After these players leave after the 2025 season, PSU should have a lot of money to spend to plug the holes for 2026.

We certainly have some gaps, but they are mostly with depth players. Every team has gaps so I wouldn't get too worried if we can't find some help in the portal.

Definitely need experience depth, not necessarily starter types for DT, LBer, and possibly a Safety. I don't think PSU will go after a WR because the highest rated will go elsewhere.

I definitely think Nelson will getting a starting job somewhere. Definitely a loss for us but him leaving made a ton of sense.

You can't blame a 6th year guy for seeking a guaranteed starting spot vs competing for one here, particularly the fact that he's always been a rotation piece (I'd bet 75% of his starts were because of injury to someone else). It's not a bad thing because that mean we have recruited well.

Do I like losing him? Absolutely not. He's been good when called upon. However, I'm thrilled if his departure means 1. Cousins is ready 2. Birch and JVen are ready to carry the load off the bench. Hopefully he goes on and has a great year and gets drafted.
