Be aware that a flash flood in the Little Catoctin Creek last May wiped out a footbridge on the C&O Canal between Brunswick and Point of Rocks, MD, around mile 52. Gap about 20' deep and 40' wide. Impassible. Not sure when/if the National Park Service will find the money to replace the footbridge.

My sis and five female friends did a few years back when they all turned 60. They had a blast! Stayed at B & Bs along the way...took five days. They started in the DC area and went to Pittsburgh. I told them that was the wrong way as it is uphill but that was the way they wanted.

There is an Amtrak train that will take you and bikes back when you are done....or take you to your start so you ride back home. Saves having someone drive you one way.
