26 Iowa athletes under investigation for gambling

Guessing this is happening in more than just Iowa. College kids are into sports gambling. It's been pushed on them. I doubt that athletes are immune even if they are being educated on the consequences.
I agree. This problem is going to grow. It was not a good idea to allow gambling on college sports to go nationwide. I hate seeing and hearing all the sports gambling commercials. The media is being saturated. No doubt in my mind that nefarious characters are @ work trying to latch onto athletes @ as many schools as they can. Not good.

And yet here comes a freaking casino to State College.

That has nothing to do with online sports gambling which is be promoted constantly by our wonderful msm. A casino is mainly used by an older crowd. Kids don’t go to casino as much as they bet on sports online.

  • The university of Iowa has received information about 111 individuals.
    • This includes 26 current student-athletes from baseball, football, men’s basketball, men’s track and field, and men's wrestling, as well as one full-time employee of the UI Department of Athletics.
    • The vast majority of the individuals are student-staff, former student-athletes, or those with no connection to UI Athletics.
    • The list does not include any current or former coaches.
This will go to all campuses. Huge scandal brewing.

It’s not going to be as problematic as we think. Accused players will hire attorneys that will claim they were encouraged, entrapped or coerced into gambling by sites approved by the NCAA and/or the NFL. As usual the NCAA will fold like a cheap once realize that there’s additional money in it for everyone. Just another crashing pillar.

This is a huge problem at Iowa which might cripple them in several sports. But I suspect it will be found elsewhere. Unbelievably humans are sinful creatures all of them not just psu people or republicans

That's be real--gambling is prevalent at all schools now. Just hopefully they aren't betting on sports at their own school.

Another incoming temptation.
Would not surprise me if most problem gamblers end up placing their bets by their phones.

This may be a similar situation to when people always blamed the bars for binge drinking, when 99% of alcohol poisoning incidents happened to due to quickly downing bottles of hard liquor in apartments.
