45 minutes to kickoff,,,need a miracle on ice performance tonight! USA

I hope that I'm wrong but I can't see the US mounting much of an attack and Messi and company will bring a ton of possession and chances. Thinking this will be a 3-0 match. Our guys won't quit. We won't yield a touchdown worth of goals like El Tri.

Yeah, talked to a guy today who follows the sport closely, especially South American teams. He guessed 4-1 Argentina.

I like the Wondo move, lets see how it plays out. The Coach has done a solid job with this squad so far. and please, someone make sure we limit our back passing. attack, attack, attack.

It's easier said than done. S American teams usually possess that ball so much more so it's a bit harder to dictate the game. It's more like defend, defend, defend and make the counter hurt once or twice. Maybe a restart as well.

Literally the lineup of replacements I least wanted to see. Hopefully it works out

It's all easier said than done for sure. My strategy is to put everything into getting that first goal and get the Argentines off balance.

That was an incredible goal to be able to stick it under the right crossbar in a 2'x2' square, perhaps even smaller.

It made zero tactical sense. If you want to get forward and possess like you said all week why play Beckerman who can do almost nothing except go side to side and play the ball short? So he has two DM-types in the middle and no creative option. The only weakness Argentina showed in the tournament is up the middle with a lack of pace from Otamendi. So you match up Wonda against him instead of Zardes? Klinsmann is flailing....

Sometimes he makes brilliant moves and then sometimes you look at the lineup and say WHY?!

The US central midfield cannot possess the ball. Wondo cannot hold on to the ball. US soccer simple lacks a true world class touch on the ball.
At least in this lineup. If you're playing with house money like you say all week why would you not play the creative youngsters, especially when one is one of the most exciting young players in one of the worlds top leagues. IDC if he's 17.

Bradley, done. Dempsey, done. It's time for youth. Oh, and some work on ball skills. It would be easy to blame Guzan but to be fair he was neutralized on both goals.

With regard to Pulisic, I can't say enough how important it is for a young player to have coaches who believe in you and are willing to give you opportunities. What a lucky kid. I'm very happy for him.

Wish he would show the same confidence in Nagbe. Throwing out Bradley and Beckerman beside one another in MF doomed us from the start.

Can't believe how bad Bradley was tonight. Single-handedly gave up that 4th goal. Our captain let us down all night.

Besler had a good game the other night but he goes with Birnbaum

Yeah, seems like he has no strategy or game plan. Just winging it out there. Maybe Jurgen needs to be subbed.
Unfortunately I don't think there's a better option at all. Plus, I don't want to be too harsh here, for as bad as this was (and it's effing bad), he coached them up great the last 3 and has wins over a number of other top teams. Just sometimes it's Tyson in Tokyo from him

He seems like he is getting impatient regarding where he wants the team to be and where this team is at in reality. It is great that you publicly state your team can "compete with anyone", but you can not coach like that against a team like Argentina. They cut a guy who starts for Juventus and had players from Manchester City, PSG and Tottenham sitting on the bench. If we had even one player at any of those clubs they would be the undisputed superstar of the US team. Hopefully we can get this generation of players (Pulisic, Zellalem, Green, Hyndman etc) to stay in Europe and play at the top level. When Altidore and Bradley took the easy route and came home and when Gonzalez and Besler opted to never leave it really crippled the development of Klinsmann's project in the short term.

Some of you are hilarious I must say ... read this thread from start to finish in a row and right before the game the replacements are good its who everyone would've put in JK made the right call in his subs for our 3 carded players ... then its JK must not know what he's doing why would he put those subs in etc etc lol it was just hilarious to read the progression from one extreme to the other

Never be able to beat the world's best teams with an MLS all-star team. Soon as I saw Zusi and Wondo were the forwards I knew it was a lost cause.

Maybe go back and reread the thread. There is literally one post in support of Klinsmann opting to play Wondo. Every other pre-game post seems bearish at best.

I was in favor of playing Wondo. Obviously I was wrong and these guys are no closer to the elite than 4 years ago.

Play youth, that's it. Get kids into Europe and play them. All of the old timers need to sit on Saturday and be left off the team moving forward.

Having said that, I can see how our side was mesmerized by the display Argentina put on . Sick.

Nobody is thrilled that they were playing, but the US is not loaded and they really are a step below the top teams in overall technical ability. I was hoping we would see Zardes pushed up and Nagbe paired with MB, but I knew he would go with KB as he is his security blanket. Stays at home and defends hard with effort. Coaches do love players like that and I get that, but last nigth the US team could not hold on to the ball. Nagbe really had no impact when he was brought in as they simply got that early goal and knocked the ball all over the entire pitch.

Argentina's bench beats the US last night and that isn't an exaggeration. They US has come a long way, but we really are still not producing elite talent in some huge numbers. Far from it. Aregentina's back line is more technically sound with the ball at their feet than anyone who played in our midfield last night. S. American teams don't panic when pressure is applied and the players are so comfortable with the ball at their feet. The US players still panic and give the ball away at an alarming clip. If you watch the first touch by the Argentine team versus that of the US, you can see a night and day difference. I'm not even talking about Messi as that dude is on his own planet in his own Universe.

Their ability to side step and create space with short passes is amazing.
