Interesting article in USA Today, but since my generation doesn't know how to create links, I'll summarize. The number before the name is where the coordinator placed nationally in 2016 salary, The five names are the writer's opinion on most overpaid based on performance and salary:
1) John Chavis: Texas A&M DC $1,558,000 (highest salary in the country for a coordinator).
6) Cam Cameron: LSU ex-OC $1,200,000. Fired after game four.
8) Bob Shoop: Tennessee DC $1,155,000.
9) Brian VanGorder: Notre Dame ex-DC $1,106,156. Fired after four games.
15) Mike Stoops: Oklahoma DC $900,000.
I was thinking about how, or if we could keep Moorhead and Pry around for another three years or so by offering extensions with significant pay increases so we can establish continuity and stability, and not disrupt a recruiting season, but after seeing what top 15 coordinators are getting already, I don't think we would be willing to pay our way to intermediate term coaching stability. As an aside note, I liked Shoop and wish him well. He has the talent at Tennessee, so I assume the Vols defense will be significantly better in 2017.
Also, as a question to readers. When a player wants to transfer, the HC can say yes but not to certain schools. With contract buyout provisions, I assume that Franklin cannot currently tell an assistant coach OK except for any B1G team. I am thinking it would require a new contract or extension, with a nice pay raise and as a quid pro quo contains a buyout provision and a "no Conference foe" clause in it. If that's enforceable and what it takes, I would like to see us go that route with Moorhead (and Pry), but that's a question better answered by an attorney with contract law experience. Our path to the B1G Championship game is difficult enough being in the East division. No sense making it harder by seeing Moorhead go to a conference competitor, which given the recent Purdue rumors he apparently can do at this point. Thoughts?
