Didn't think it was possible to top 2014's performance of 4 of 8 NCAA
Men's and Women's Final Four coaches being from PA, but this year 5 of 8
are from PA! Bo Ryan (Wisconsin), John Calipari (Kentucky), Geno
Auriemma (UConn), Muffet McGraw (Notre Dame), and Dawn Staley (South
Carolina).

What towns are they from? I know Bo Ryan is from Chester but not sure about the others.

Calipari (Moon), Staley (Philadelphia), Ryan (Chester), McGraw (Pottsville)

Auriemma (Norristown).

Coach K has family roots in the Uniontown area

His maternal grandparents emigrated from Poland to Keisterville, PA

Because PA people know and love their sports. That's why...

Well it's interesting in a lot of ways - first because of how unlikely it is -- there are 50 states and PA is only the 6th largest by population - to have 5 of the final 8 coaches in national tournaments from one state is interesting. It may suggest that PA basketball is such that great basketball minds are likely to form there.

Somebody told me the other day that Auriemma was Phil Martelli's

assistant at Norristown. Pretty amazing to have 2 successful college coaches on the same high school staff.

Yes, but not at Norristown HS.

At Bishop Kenrick, now named Kennedy-Kenrick.

PA-Pride. That's why.

Where you from? I've from PA and love PA sports. It's not just a Penn State thing.
I agree. It's pretty cool.

It seems like 50% of the elite coaches from ANY sport are from either PA or Ohio with PA slightly ahead. It's almost too much to be a complete coincidence though I would have no idea how it would translate.
