7 foot alligator in Monongahela river???

Yea I grew up on the Mon and if you ever get around Charleroi in the summer and the local girls come out to swim in the river, I would take my chances with the Gator

Growing up, it was the Monongahela brown trout and the Allegheny white fish. When swimming in the rivers, had to push them out of the way as they floated on the surface.

And a handbag as a gift for .... Oh no. Better not start that up again.**

Re: I've Never Seen An Alligator With 7 Feet Before! *

They think it stowed away on a barge from down south. 7 feet is the secret to that southern speed thing. ;).

It's already devoured several people.

There was a huge python which had been partially eaten found on the bank in Glassport a few years ago.

Yes, its name was Judas Shuttlesworth aka Andrea DiMaggio.

I don't think they ever did find it. Check out the one in my link.

If true it must have arrived recently.

A gator couldn't live through the winter. Probably couldn't survive the current water temperature.

Then it's best if it stays in the shallows and out of the current?

Very skeptical of this. One guy sees a duck disappear and

the other sees two eyes at night. This turns into an alligator????? Way too cold for an alligator in the Mon.

Not if it's hanging at some of the industrial outfalls....they never freeze.

Believe me, no many active industrial outfalls in that area

no power plants and the only thing left is the old Allenport mill.

Zoo officials stated the ravenous beast could survive as long as the water isn't frozen over. Police say the maneater may never be confirmed or found.

Maine is colder than the Pittsburgh area and Lake Placid supported several gators bigger than 7 foot. :>

An alligator could not survive in those temperatures unless it spent ALL of it's time out of the water in the sun to keep it's body temperature up, which make it very EASY to spot. Also, a 7 footer is not even an adult gator and calling it a man-eater sounds like the kind of hype we are used to from ESPN. ROTFLMAO.

Alligators are found in upstate North Carolina bordering a swamp with Virginia, so they will survive frigid winters with lows in the teens. Im sure they can survive 40 degree water,. Now maybe they dont like it or can get severely weakened, but they could survive.

Comparing the Great Dismal Swamp on the NC VA border where the water never gets much below 55 degrees to the Burgh where the water can get down into the 30s isn't much of a comparison. Lows in the teens on the VA NC border? Yes, it does happen, but not very often and most winters it does NOT happen or even get close. Keep thinking there are gators in the Mon and I have a BUNCH of bridges I'd like to sell you.
