7 minutes with Zain

Interesting that the one thing he would change if he were in charge--get rid of folkstyle! Zain definitely buys into the "just go out there and have fun" philosophy!

That was fantastic. Got a lot of insight from Zain in a short article. In the mind of a winner.

Have to disagree with our boy about ditching Folkstyle. Strongly agree about NYC and the Garden as a great venue.

"I think I’d maybe get rid of folkstyle."
Really? Most of his pins come directly from folkstyle techniques. Leg ride to power half is not something that would happen in freestyle.

wait until he get's ripped first hand from the non-corrupt officials and then he may not care about explaining freestyle to others :)

Ironically, the title of this thread, is also the answer to the question "What is your worst nightmare as a college wrestler at 149 pounds?"

I'll answer that. Going up to the line and having to wrestle Zain Retherford and getting your arse handed to you. In the process... you're going to get pounded and have your body bent in unnatural positions while a standing room only audience watches you become a human pretzel. Your face contorted in ways your body shouldn't be either.

Precisely.

The interview with Joe Smith was pretty good as well. He stated that the match at the NCAA's against Jason Nolf is the one he's like to do over again and change his approach. Smith is good, I even like the kid and his personality. Aside from being even more conservative ( and yes, I mean stall more) and working the edge of the mats more, I really don't see him closing the gap much and I certainly don't ever see him beating Jason.

and if you read Walsh's blurb he would like to rematch against Nolf and come out more aggressive!

So did Smith and Martinez.

Interestingly, Pantaleo's rematch choice was not Zain. Wonder why.

Jimmy Gulibon, take note -- if this is what it takes, I had some college roommates who could've beaten McKenna:

What’s the strangest thing that’s ever gone through your mind during a match?
One of the weirder things I’ve had happen to me during a match, if I’m wrestling a guy and I’m like, ‘Man, this guy really smells,’ I can’t get over it. I’m like, ‘Man, this guy smells, what is wrong? I need to keep wrestling.’

Interesting because that match wasn't even close. At least in the dual Walsh kept it to a major, but over two matches Nolf racked up 37 points. With the exception of IMar, Nolf tends to improve against guys the second time he sees them. Gotta like Walsh for thinking "if only..." though.

Are there rules in wrestling against smelling bad? If so, has anyone ever seen such a rule enforced?
And if there is no rule, maybe Foley will be politically courageous and devote 15 columns to call for such a rule. ;)
