85 million dead - roughly 3.5% of world's population. Equivalent to 266 million today. In the last 75 years the world has thus far not fought another interstate conflict on such a scale. A case could be made that we now fight regional proxy wars due to the threat of nuclear weapons. Time will tell how much longer reason and restraint hold up. I believe strongly we will be in a hot war with China in five years.

Today's world says that headline is racist. There will be no celebrating today. Such a shame that my grandfather and his brother island hopped for nothing.
