Looking at last night's playoff rankings, it appears that only Penn State and Alabama are not playing in a conference championship game this weekend among the top 10 or 11 teams.
What's troubling about this is the opportunity for all these other teams to get an extra game to impress the committee. It's the only reason a team like OSU has a shot, but PSU doesn't at the moment. Even TCU has a shot if everything breaks right.
So if you happen to play in a division with one or more other really good teams, you're potentially screwed out of a chance of the extra data point. OSU's loss out of conference doesn't impact their ability to make it to the conference championship game, so it's a bit unfair. Just wanted to point that out because as it stands now, TCU and USC, both currently ranked behind PSU, and OSU only 1 spot ahead have a chance at the playoff whereas PSU has no shot. As I said, seems a bit unfair.
