Hey everyone, no tidbits so far today! Those will probably pick up as school starts and visits are being taken. Today I was giving thought about the program and Pat Chambers specifically. Here is what I came up with.
1) I think Chambers is doing a very good job within the last two years. Specifically, I really like his staff. I think Chambers and his staff are getting after it. At the events I attend, there is always a PSU representative there. They are getting around trying to find the best fits for the program. In my opinion, Chambers the last four years has landed either a top three players in the Philly PCL or has landed the best player in Philly. Brandon Austin, while he didn't stay, he was committed, was the best player in Philly. Shep was a top 3-5 player in the PCL, which is a deep leauge. Now this year he has a shot of landing two of the top five players in the city, Carr and Stevens. If you ask me, that's pretty impressive. Penn State had a chance of being the second highest recruting class in PA. I give kudos to Chambers. He is involved with a lot of players. Mike Watkins is up there in the Philly rankings, but his situation is different.
2) I think the team this year will take its lumps. We have a lot of young players getting their feet wet. If we can see contributions from Reeves and Watkins then that would be a step in the right direction. I really think the thick of the potential succee of PSU is when Carr is on campus and has the ball in his hands. If you are able to get Stevens and Painter, then I think we are well on to seeing 20+ win seasons. However, I want to throw some caution out there, it takes a while before success can be seen. It doesn't happen in one day, it takes years.
3) An area of imorovment I would like to see from Chambers on the recruting trail is for him to make some in roads in New Jersey, New York, and Ohio. Those areas so rich with basketball talent. The New York prep schools, Catholic schools, and public schools have a ton of talent, along with NJ schools as well. There are players all around those areas. I would love to see Chambers get into those areas. Ohio is a very underrated state with basketball talent, I suggest for him to make in roads there as well. There are a ton of players to potentially sign who can make an impact.
Those are some of my thoughts! Have at it!
