A couple of thoughts/observations after getting back from the game.
1) Tough tailgating conditions in the red lot-only a few of us tried it. Was able to grill a little bit of bacon, but the wind kept putting out the flames on our Coleman grill. Fortunately the wind died down a bit as the game started.
2) Solid performance by the wide receivers yesterday. At least we tried some screens and one jet sweep to Hamler. Dotson continues to impress and get better. Was happy to see Shorter get a few reps and his first career catch.
3) Liked the two tight end formations with Friermuth and Bowers-both can block and helped open some holes for Miles.
4) One play that did not get a lot of mention yesterday was the fake punt with Jonathan Thomas. Not the most fancy play I have ever seen, but effective enough to get the first down and keep the drive going.
5) Micah Parsons continues to improve. No points scored while he was on the field! His reps should continue to increase.
6) Shout out to Robert Windsor with a career game. Also, strong performances from both Miller and Gross-Matos.
7) Pinegar performed well in tough kicking conditions. However, after watching him warm up several times this season, he struggles kicking into the south end zone. The majority of his made kicks this year were in the north end zone.
8) Trivia fact #1-Mc Sorley tied Todd Blakledge for careers wins for a QB at 29.
9) Trivia fact #2-yesterday was our tenth straight win over Big Ten West opponents with our last loss being to Northwestern in 2015. Maybe we can send a petition to Delany to have his move to the Big Ten West-what a difference in the quality of teams in the Big Ten East vs. the Big Ten West.
10) Nice dedication to Wally Triplett!
Onward to Rutgers-hopefully we can get some of our freshman some more reps for Shorter, Oweh, Tarbuton and Luketa.
We are!
