Last night was a stressful game. A game with a lot of ups and downs, big leads, and small leads. It showed a lot of character in the young team to stick with it. I thought the team play hard the whole night.
1) I thought it was great team defense he whole night. They didn't let White have an open shot the whole night, someone was on him every possession. In my opinion, it was a good total defense effort last night.
2) Chmabers is coaching the heck out of his team. He is getting everything out of them, every last ounce. Very seldom do coaches coach every single possession, but Chambers has made the commitment that every single possession mattery and that's a great thing. I enjoyed the way Chambers got into Shep for that one shot I. the first half I believe. It was a bad shot to be honest. Chambers, even back in the day, is about quality of shot and not quanity. Our ball movment was better this time around than last time.
3) I thought Shep and Taylor played a very good game. It is obvious that those two are our two main offensive assests. Chambers and credit to Shep and Taylor they are findimg ways to be effective and efficient over the last two weeks.
4) While the stat line doesn't show it, Jack and Reeves contributed with effort. I thought they both played very good defense the whole night. Look, right now, Reeves is a freshman trying to figure it out. I preach patience with Reeves. At any other school right now he is Red shirting. I am enjoying watching his development process. It doesn't come over night. I suspect a huge difference in his game next year.
5) The loss of the big lead was concerning. I don't discredit Nebraska, that team fights till the game is over. PSU seems to have a little loul in the middle of the game, where the other team takes them out of what they want to do. I dont contribute to them not playing hard or lack of effort. It's a young team that is learning not only how to win, but now how to finish and put teams away, which is a good, but tough lesson to learn. It's an up and down process. So many freakish things happen within a course of a game that contributes to that.
All in all, I thought it was a good team win and a good win for the young guys to get. A lot of lessons can be learned from last night. But a win is a win. Winnimg ugly is sometimes a great lesson in itself.
I look for the Michigan State game to be very telling and interesting. Mich St, in my opinion, when healthy is the best team in the country. Tom Izzo is the best coach in the country. A lot of lessons can be learned by the players and Chambers. It is a good measuring stick game if you will. Win or loss I think it will help the young players in the long run.
