All this congratulating tOSU... when IMO, some other important news is UM outwrestling the Hawkeyes this past weekend.
UM looked like a team with something to prove. I was impressed with their weekend. Meanwhile, Iowa wrestled about as uninspired as I’ve seen them wrestle.
Is there Brands fatigue? Can he survive another bad outing in two weeks? Where do we predict Iowa’s finish now, given they’ll have some pretty tough draws in two weeks? Where do we place UM?
We welcome Hawkeye input as well... you’ll get very little “get off my lawn” responses over here.

Get off my lawn!

There, just to get it out of the way, one token.

I was surprised by Iowa results, and really wish Spencer could have knocked off Nato, but next time is even more important. UM is certainly tough. Dual comparisons were 25-12 versus 28-13 (obviously Nolf-less).

Without looking myself, what is the age of UM, lots of underclass or upper?

They a solid group of seniors. Abounader, Beazley, and Coon are their three. They will hurt losing those, but I am sure they will fill in quite well. I know they have Striggow at 197.

I think the Iowa team result was somewhat expected with the exception of about 3 matches. I watched the entire event with 4 really big Iowa fans. They are pretty solid Brands fans but do think Iowa is not very good anytime a scramble situation occurs. They are not morning* fans as a coach and would prefer Perry more involved. My dad thought Spencer should have taken top and won 1-0. The natives are really not all that restless- plus the rest of us watching were ISU fans and I think the Iowa fans feel a little guilty bitching with us present. I did break out my PSU hat for the finals- It is funny that everyone with the exception of myself and one other buddy have taken the "field" against every PSU wrestler. Everyone really hates that Nolf was injured. They did complain that Zain was stalling a few times but I silenced that noise. My dad claims to really dislike PSU but loves watching them wrestle. He is like I was 6 years ago as he loves the style and the type of kids but hates the idea of wrestling centering in the East instead of the Midwest. I told him that isn't ever changing back and he agrees.

OSU had 7 total losses at the tourney ... 2 to PSU and 3 to Michigan. So UM did their part to help us out.

It would have been nice if Iowa could have helped us out at our weaker weights ... 125, 133, 157 without JN ... but they were basically a non-factor in the tourney.

Sure hope Beazley can go in a bit more than a week. Appeared to suffer a shoulder injury at B1Gs.

Your Dad certainly had an interesting strategy for Lee and Tomasello, never crossed my mind to take top and look for the 1 minute of riding time. Unless you know you can ride Tomasello for 2 minutes, either way you have to prevent a takedown which Lee could not do. OTOH, top is Lee's best position, kind of like a baseball pitcher with the game on the line throwing his second best pitch.

It is the end of his first season. Just my take, but if the kid is indeed the best recruit since Cael Sanderson and he has been in someone's wrestling room for a year now he should be able to take Tomascello down.

Not sure I’ve ever seen two wrestlers (Massa flexing, and Lewis mimicking brands running his mouth), from two different teams, get after a coach after a win like they did Brands this weekend. I realize Iowa in general is not well liked by many... but there was some serious attitude being shelled out. Is there a backstory to those instances?

Michigan redshirted everyone last year it seemed. I dont think many projected Iowa ahead of Michigan this year after losing Thomas Gilman, Cory Clark, Alex Meyer and Sam Brooks. Seth Gross and PD3 certainly would have helped but that's a shoulda coulda scenario. Definitely a disappointing tourney but Iowa can turn some of those close losses around in 2 weeks.

I think the most interesting question is who wins next year...Iowa or Michigan. Feel like that would be very close.

Outside of Iowa? Probably true.
Otherwise....... Yeah,...................Righto_O

Well. You guys do have that one guy. What's his name. He drinks a lot and works in compliance or something. You know who I mean. He told everybody who listened, the Hawks had a realistic chance.
Not everybody was thinking the Hawks were going to be second tier Big10 wrestling.

Overall, Iowa sucks hind tit. The bull is good but he won't be the 4X undefeated NCAA champ those schmucks touted after upset of Cenzo. He may be lucky to take 4th this year. Lee awesome and can win it all. Kemmerer very, very good and should take 2nd to Nolf. Sorenson very very good and should take 2nd to Zain but could get beat en route. Seems content with 2 point loss to Zain - who wouldn't? Aside from that, nothing. Stoll is a slug and may be lucky to AA.

Next year, they should be better but not good enough...again.

Appreciate you coming over after the past weekend. Must have been tough.

Yeah, this was expected to be a down year for Iowa, but once they burned Spencer's shirt and Marinelli got healthy there were a lot of Hawk fans over here flexing their muscles. I don't think anyone expected Iowa to be nearly irrelevant at Bigs.

Same weight class as well. I expect it from Lewis. Not sure about Massa. Marinelli doesn't seem like the type to start anything. Could be just a coincidence.

Lewis doesn't surprise me but Massa "flexing" makes me wonder if the wrestlers were reacting to something the Brands said during the match. Something that stirred up their emotions like the UofM fans did to Mark Hall. Hard to picture a kid doing that to Cael but I suppose it could happen.

Tommy and Terry do carry on a bit. Probably after listening to a 7 minute mind numbing drum beat of come on ref here's staaaaalllliiiiinnnn, over and over there is probably a desire to tell Tommy and Teryy, "old man. Sit down and shut up."

Massa made some comments about I am better than him underneath, on top and from my feet.
The brothers said enough to keep Massa pissed for a bit after the match.

That wouldn't shock me if TnT said something to get it started.

so...how long has it been since Iowa did not have a single champ?
not as long ago as you might think.....

I seem to remember when they had several in the finals, none won and I dont think many even scored a TD.

There was this one time at Band Camp, in New York City where the Hawks had 3 finalists and even though the Hawks scored not a single offensive point and the other guys had multiple offensive attacks converted into points the land of HR went head over heels straight into a dark and smelly orifice about the guys who scored all of the offensive points were somehow all stalling.

That was just that one time at Band Camp in New York City. You probably have a fine Band Camp example at a Big10 jubilee.

IOWA has 9 going to Cleveland. They can make some noise. Hope appropriately so this time.

If you watch the last few moments of their bout, after they go OB and before the restart, Lewis chirps something into Marinelli’s ear. Seems like it wasnt a spur of the moment thing. Makes for some good drama in the near future.
On another note... seems like there’s a few people hating Mark Hall? Terribly unfair, as he’s one of the nicest kids I’ve ever met (just like all of Cael’s wrestlers). Ok, so he occasionally drops the hammer, or flex’s some muscle. Yeah, get over it. I guess there are a few theories why... all bunk, IMO.

Not sure about Big Tens, but I was in STL not too long ago and I think they won that year without any champs. Not 100% on that though, but I recall a couple Hawk fans staying in the hotel in the morning session. I called them and told them how well Iowa was performing in wrestle backs and they jumped in a cab and were there in a hurry. I am pretty sure it was PSU's pre-Cael years.

Yeah, from our view we all thought he separated it. It looked like a pop in live action, have not seen a replay.

At least Terry didn't get thrown, so there's that silver lining ;)

Terry shows up in the middle of the mat screaming at Massa, I do not imagine it would be very long until Bormet introduced Terry to his own bug and windshield moment.

The moment certainly would lack the impact Tom's via Cael did, but I believe it would be good for Terry.

I was sarcastically referencing to the 'throw me' moment after Clark's championship last year and pointing out that there was no such misfortune for Terry after B10s. But I have to say your post was quite a bit funnier than mine.

I believe the year was 2015 no champs at big ten's .
Lewis is a punk was when he was juco champ at
Fort Dodge him and PD111 where buddies then.

Definitely a disappointing tourney but Iowa can turn some of those close losses around in 2 weeks.

I agree and fully expect stronger individual performances from several Hawks in Cleveland. I thought they’d perform better at B1Gs, but crazy stuff sometimes happens at these tourneys.

Wasn't there but if you watched the first session on Flo/BTN+ you could hear some of the exchanges.. They got a bench warning 30 seconds into the first match. I think Massa had just hit his tipping point listening to two Shitzu's bark non stop for 7 minutes. Lewis is a D-Bag but the last time he wrestled the Bull he actually shook hands, told Marinelli nice match and was walking off when the Bopsy twins started jawing, so I give him a pass. Both Brands Bros seem to have a tumultuous relationship with just about every other coaching staff/Wrestler. Cody and Casey entertain it more than Cael but I heard quite a few exchanges with Iowa and NorthWestern as well as Minny (I know there was more but there is nothing exciting about Iowa wrestling to warrant me watching it). Basically, they run their mouth the entire match when they think they will win. As soon as they get beat they retreat like the whipped dogs they are. It's rather embarrassing and makes me glad to have someone like Cael. I hope Iowa keeps them on the staff for the foreseeable future as anyone with any talent would do a better job all around and potentially challenge for 2nd. I like them out of the top 5 where they belong.

This seems like a feel better thread after getting beat by the Buckeyes. Nolf might be the difference between 1st and 2nd in 2 weeks. Odd to see Kemerer and Nolf tie for 6th place. Injuries suck
