A lot of people opined that DT and ER could never be replaced as far as NCAA scoring goes

Guess who the two top individual scorers are in this tournament?

Zain Retherford (Penn State) 23.5
Jason Nolf (Penn State) 22

Fantastic!

Nice of the Bonus Finalist to appear again this year ...

PSU Bonus = 22 pts so far (6 MD, 4 TF, 5 WBF), good for 21st in the team race, just behind Stanford, just ahead of Navy and Wisconsin.

PSU Bonus tripled Pitt's 7.5 pts. Just sayin'.

You mean a lot of non-PSU, non-Pennsylvania people (read: Iowa fans) said that Cael would never be able to replace DT and ER despite Cael being smack-dab in the middle of the richest "elite high school wrestling" recruiting territory in the nation by a factor of like 5 times. I don't recall any PSU fans believing that this would be a problem for Cael....in fact, I recall Cael saying the diametric opposite in 2009 when he took the job when he addressed how he was going to build a dynasty and why it would be "unassailable". IOW, rather than "a lot of people", I think you meant "some non-Pennsylvania, non-PSU fans of a has-been b1g program.....".

Just wait till you see the diabolical stalling plan that Cael and staff put together for Zain tonight. Our coaching brain trust is downright criminal, that I can't believe they still allow them to get away with it.;)

I'm actually really worried about the bullcrap Perry is going to pull. Equipment adjustments, bogus challenges, etc. He's going to pull out all the stops

And total outrage for McIntosh backing up in the 3rd - but let's ignore Burak doing NOTHING for 5 minutes.

Not only Burak doing nothing for the first 5 minutes, but MacIntosh maintaining constant low-leg attacks in neutral during virtually the entire time (as Mac escaped quickly in 2nd)! Under the rules of actual wrestling, when one wrestlers is sustaining 100% of the attacks and aggression and his opponent is being 100% passive, the attacking wrestler is SUPPOSED to be rewarded via passivity calls by the ref on his opponent and penalty points for the aggressor! But let's forget about the bull$hit way both this match and the b1g Championship match were officiated by the "average officiating" of the b1g shiz-hole centric officials.... Oh yea, the b1g shiz-hole "awards committee" naming I-Mar's effort "outstanding wrestling" was a nice touch as well ROTFLMFAO.

What was the highest bonus point count during the Ruth and Taylor years? Seems like this team is pretty comparable.

Even before finals, Zain & Nolf (45.5) as their own two-man team have out scored the entire teams of:

Oklahoma
Iowa State
Lehigh
Rutgers
Stanford
Minnesota
Wisconsin

Coach Cael or Casey will be informing the Ref before the Nolf match...Already taken care of but Perry will still try....

I just have flashbacks to Bubba's bogus skullcap crap - I had a bad feeling early in the match back then.

I thought there'd be serious clownery in the quarters with JoJo and Rogers, but we took those matches over quick.

Now who would have predicated that Casey Kent (Penn) would be tied with Zach Epperly (VT) for the most individual points by a wrestler that did not reach the finals? They each have 19.5 points.

Ah Testa, I believe you are being unfair. The only thing many Iowa fans know about wrestling is the guy across from the Iowa wrestler is always stalling, no matter what.
The reason for that is everytime Dan Gable yelled at a ref "he's stalling" the fist went up. They truly believe that is just how it is supposed to be. The Iowa motto, Earn nothing if entitled. The realization that things must be earned and there is no Iowa entitlement program has created some hawkish bitterment.

Took them over quick and steamrolled them to finish. JoJo looked like he just wrestled a run away truck, and half way through the 174 match Rodgers was on his knees in the middle of the mat head hanging. He had the look of someone who had no idea it was going to be this freaking hard, nor what to do to about it.

I was at a tournament at the time of the hire, right after Cael was hired, and more than a few coaches literally said something to the effect of "Well it finally happened, the sleeping giant is going to wake up now...". Meaning that it was here all along, we just needed the man to take it all the way.

NOT IN ANY WAY a criticism or IN ANY WAY a slam on ANY of our former coaches, from Troy to Fritz to Lorenzo to the great Bill Koll....they were all EXCELLENT coaches as well as Hughes who is also a GREAT coach, AS WELL AS Rob Koll.

Just making sure you guys understand that disclaimer....but when Cael was signed, everyone inside the sport knew it was lights out, and that the rest of the nation was in trouble, the potential had finally been tapped.

What cracked me up about that fiasco was how Johnson and his buddy Gibbons were shouting about Imar's "heart", as he stalled for more than half the match in neutral with underhooks, and then took 3 bullshit lungers that his asshole coach jobbed the officials for.

The hilarious thing is that over on the Hawk board, and a few of my buddies from out west said "Just wait until Taylor and Ruth are gone" and then the very next year in comes Nolf and Retherford out of left field, haha...

That was a cruel blow right there.

And now, before they can say it's time we restore our rightful place at the top, in comes Mark Hall.

As Grady Seasons said to fast Eddie Felson in the remake of "The hustler", with Paul Newman...

"It's like a nightmare...it just keeps gettin worse".
