A message to Ohio St fans crying about the non int call...

"Bad calls happen to everyone. Refs miss calls all the time. Great teams overcome bad calls. You must not be a great team. Quit whining."

NOT a bad call, in slow re-play you saw some contact ("could" have been called if official had different angle, but more like incidental contact). In "football" there is always contact, hence why a certain amount of "holding" is not called.
In addition, the official had no view of the contact. Hence NO CALL. Not a bad call.

I loved Jordan Smith in Minny game, but took a lot of balls to have him out there for that play and he got beat!

Bullshit. It was a terrible call. There was a reason it bounced off his helmet. But....I'll take it.

He didn't even see the ball or he would have had his left hand up and it wouldn't have hit him in the helmet........how about givens being dragged to the ground with no call

It was a missed call. One of several. The refs also had trouble spotting the ball all night.

But in the end, the worst call was Urban Meyer being too stubborn to call a timeout and rushed his kids into trying to set up a long field goal. He will have to take the blame for blowing the 14 point lead, the refs didn't do that for him.

I agree that by the letter of the law it was interference, but I can absolutely see why the ref missed it. It was nice to see us get a break for a change.

The pass was down the left sideline. How would having his left hand up keep it from bouncing off his helmet? Again....I'll take it (given the horrible calls that cost us all the years before). But having said it was a bad call, do I think OSu would have won if they got that call? Of course not. We won the game fair and square because we outplayed them. But doesn't mean that wasn't a bad call.

That call would had to have been made with a microscope and a fine-toothed comb. It would have been a chicken shit call if they called it. I'm surprised they didn't.

I was over at Hineygate and they were whining about the call and then I ran across this posted on Friday:

"What these nimrods fail to realize is ALL TEAMS get bad calls. Most refs suck at their job. There is no agenda. They just suck at their job. Good teams win despite the crappy calls (OSU). Crappy teams (PSU) aren't good enough to overcome bad calls very often. Play better and bad calls won't matter nearly as much."

Aint karma a bitch.

In any normal situation he would be correct. But history shows that our games have been the exception rather than the rule.

They needed more than a 15 yard penalty. Still would not have out them in FG range

I think his point was that unless the OSU player was planning on catching the ball with just his right hand (the hand that got pulled down) the fact that he didn't even attempt to use his left hand to catch it suggests he never really saw it. That fact doesn't determine whether there should have been a penalty, but that kid wasn't catching that ball no matter whether there was contact or not.

Bottom line is it could have been called as the letter of the law and rule it was PI, however then umber of times over the years where we have been absolutely cheated against tOSU and scUM are to numerous to count and VERY egregious calls that DID affect the outcome of the game.

How many times have we seen....

Heel/Toe called exactly opposite to what was called vs scUM
Just randomly add time back to the clock to allow scUM to score
Replay equipment not working.............WOW! I didn't even think they would stoop to that
Harstock!
Leaping?? What the heck is that
Holding on our nose tackle? Have never seen that called EVER in all my years watching football

The list could go on here for a long.......time

In this very game...

Barkley was clearly interfered with prior to our first half touchdown, far more blatant than the non call with Smith and was not called by the same official.

Finally, Down goes tOSU!!!! Love it!!!!

Just so you know, we don't all feel that way. PSU put together a great game, tOSU clearly did not. You deserved that win - it must be exhilarating and validating for Franklin as well. Here is a good piece to read from a rational Buckeye perspective, if you're interested. Congratulations.

How is that a "good piece to read"?

That is a bunch of assholes, being disrespectful towards PSU and talking shit.

everyone seems to forget the timeout he used before half in the hopes of giving his offense another shot and getting the ball back. We ended up marching for a TD right before half.

I'm talking about the article, not the comments. That's the problem today - everyone looks for the part to be angry about. The article basically says to be grateful for what we have as the Buckeyes and to try to see how important the win is from a PSU perspective. Sheesh - you won. Calm down.

Just checked in on College Gameday Final, expecting to hear how Ohia St. "lost" this game. Galloway, Adnam and Kannel all agreed it was a proper non-call that late in the game as it was a bang bang play in live action. They also surprised me by stating PSU was simply better (tonight).

You probably don't realize it, but when you click on the link it takes you to the comments section (at least it did for me). You need to scroll up to get to the article. I do understand the other poster's remarks about the crappy comments, and I hope you do as well.

Thanks for posting. Your comments are appreciated.

Oh - sorry. That wasn't my intention. I typically don't really read the comments on articles for precisely that reason. That's what forums are for :)

Thanks for the heads up. I edited the link for everyone so it doesn't do that anymore.

The Vonn Bell interception that he actually dropped from two years ago...now they can feel the pain!

This is a good, fair and objective read on the game and the state of each program. I haven't bothered with the comments; thanks to tOSU_fan for linking it. This is the most important post-sanctions win for Penn State and we should should just enjoy it.

Was at game in North Endzone - could not see that play because it was at South-end of field. However, this was the typical type of game with some "huh?" calls that went both ways imho. There were also a couple plays on sidelines where it was very close it appeared PSU could have been called for a late hit, but officials held their flags. But there were some equal head-scratches that went against PSU. Classic example being punt near sideline that got to ground and bounced over daO$U returner's head - he retreated, caught ball over his shoulder and was immediately tackled at 7-yard line...ref marks him out past the 10 yard line??? Crowd and Franklin went ballistic - they stopped game for an inordinate amount of time to discuss, but i'my not sure they reviewed. Mark stood which was a joke as replay clearly showed. Also play that was reviewed where Barrett appeared to go down, then escaped for a huge run....this one they reviewed but "confirmed". Replay clearly showed Barrett putting ball directly on ground while holding it to maintain from knees going down. I believe NCAA Rules do not allow a ball-carrier to intentionally put the ball to the ground like that while holding it - if they do so, ball is down at that spot. Barrett also got away with Intentional Grounding where crowd & Franklin went ballistic for extended period of time (especially crowd). Replay showed Barrett's knee was down before he Intentionally Grounded the ball. There were several bad good spots for daO$U as usual...

Nope, in this game "bad officiating" went both ways unlike the one-sided bad-officiating of 2014.

We did get two gift calls go our way with the horse collar and the non PI call. But if you're the #2 team in the country playing an unranked team, you shouldn't leave it close enough to where one call going against you can decide the outcome.
