I've seen a few people mention how much they liked Pittsburgh

And it hit me, I made a mistake not sharing this important bit of information before the tournament began:

So to any of you remaining people who have still never gone to the steel city...

If you haven't been to Pittsburgh before, make sure you enter it from the William Pitt Tunnel - AKA I 376, from the south side. You go through the tunnel, then immediately come onto the bridge over the Mon and it is AMAZING. The whole city rises from out of nowhere. You're below the whole thing, all the hills and buildings of Pittsburgh. It's just amazing. Easily my favorite vista of any American city. Hard to put into words how it shocks the senses.

Seriously, if that isn't your introduction to Pittsburgh, I feel bad for you. It's a great city no matter what, but that entrance is worth it.

I'll add that if you are going to be looking at the skyline, be the passenger in your vehicle. That road gets pretty crazy with traffic and there are exits off that bridge (I think).

I second that the Burgh is a beautiful city full of history. I live about 2 hours away and we go down for the day several times throughout the summer and near Christmas and just enjoy walking around. Now if we could just get the damn Pirates to field a team worth driving to see play...but that's another story.

I agree that was a pretty cool view.

Other than that I didn’t particularly care for the city, mainly due to all the watering holes being so spread out and small. Was amazed at the lack of stuff around the arena.

I still had a good time, just won’t be one that sticks out as a great site.

I would agree regarding the watering holes, especially if you stayed in the Point between the rivers. I would argue that it's a much nicer city to visit in the summer, when you wouldn't mind walking or spending most of your time outside. There are some really nice places to visit but they are spread out. It's not the most convenient city to get around in. The rivers and topography chop up the city.

The view you describe is 100X better at night. Have lived here most of my adult life and picked many family members and friends up at the airport at night, then brought them through the Fort Pitt tunnel. Every first timer is amazed.

Since the Burgh was founded in 1758 there was little choice but to work around the rivers and topography, given the limitations of 18th century technology. ;)

I agree. But even if you punted and started the city completely over again your still left with the same problems. Outside of the natural resources and rivers for transportation, the reality is that it's not a great place for a city.

People were nice and the event was phenomenal as usual, but I hope they start to pick some other places. Cleveland? Detroit? Come on.

St. Louis is awesome however.

If one of your top priorities is getting around, then yes Pittsburgh is not a great place for a city. The numerous bridges and tunnels add character is what I'd say and after you've lived here for a few years navigating isn't really bad at all. To each his own, as they say. :)

IMHO, the only view that can even begin to compare is going south on 101 in Marin County and going through the tunnel to suddenly see SF, the Golden Gate and Alcatraz. (Of course, a lot of the time you see none of those because of the fog.)

Didnt anyone eat at Fogo de Chao??
My brother and I did. Too bad they didn't seat on Thursday until 5:00. I could have enjoyed that palce for another hour. They had more meats than Arby's.

As to the OP, it is the Fort Pitt tunnel and bridge. I have heard it said that because of that view, Pittsburgh is the only city with an entrance.

OMG !! You compared Fogo de Chao to Arbys

Actually Fogo is a place to go when you have a couple hours for a leisurely dinner. And are able to take a nap afterwards.

If you want the meats Gaucho is the place. Amazing.

Big regret was not getting there. Or rather, attempting to get there and finding a 45-minute line (almost all wrestling fans), and we were otherwise time-constrained and couldn't do it. The smell just outside the door was amazing, I am kicking myself for not prioritizing getting there.

Pittsburgh
Gateway to the West.

Former City of Champions!

The STEEL City

Most livable city in America.

The city of Bridges!

My home town.

I'm biased, yes!

I love Pittsburgh.

:)
being from PA... it's also the land of taxes!

Not only did she hit a high note she then took it up another level! This girl should be singing at more big events bc she is that good! Way better than even Aretha Franklin more recent renditions.

How about the young lady that sang the National Anthem Friday night? That was maybe the best performance of the weekend.

The Patriot in me loves the variety of National Anthems at the NCAA Tournament. Vocalists of all ages and styles (including the Mom to a wrestler...do you remember?), groups of all types, and instrumentalists (the sax a couple years back was just awesome).

Yes, but I've long been a fan of Jeff Jimmerson's version in Pittsburgh's arena(s).
Glad da burgh brought him out for yinz all to see/hear in the finals.
