According to ESPN FPI

We have 51% chance to win conference
that Oregon tOSU game was really evenly played. Oregon kicked a FG to win it with less than two minutes left and then tOSU couldn't get into FG position (and watching the FG kicker yesterday, wonder if it would have mattered). This was also a home game for Oregon and that travel to/from the west coast was impactful if you look at the records.

Oregon, it appears, improved as the year went on. But they are beatable. I expect a good game but feel Oregon is the better team than PSU when you look at common opponents. I don't know their injury status but we've lost a lot of depth and our RT.

The last time Penn State played the CCG was 2016 - Wisconsin was ranked 6th, so again a game of two evenly-matched teams as far as rankings are concerned. PSU won that game, but it was close.

My hope is that Penn State can prepare, and Kotelnicki can dig a few zingers out of his bag of tricks. I would expect a lot of Warren (who I would think is difficult for opponents to prepare for). Win or lose, Penn State is in the playoffs, so there's that. I just hope that if they lose, they still get a home playoff game.

From what I saw of Oregon last evening, their defense looks pretty good. Gabriel looks like their version of Warren. Our defense is going to have their hands full.

Agree. Oregon's defense is extremely stout. Troutwein better get that OL in shape in order to block Caldwell at nose who is an absolute beast at 6-1, 240, and Uiagalele coming off the edge. Caldwell threw the Wash center around like a rag doll and he was 325 lbs. Dawkins, in my opinion is not very strong which may cause huge problems for Allar and our running game.

Both Dawkins and Rucci better have a great week of practice and be prepared to be physical. If we don't block these two guys, we loose! Plan and simple.

That's 6-1, 340 for Caldwell.

Wait... Lando already told me the expectation is that we lose. And that is set. And no one can have any other view.

LdN
The expectation is that we lose. Don't let a coin toss by FPI convince you otherwise
Expectation doesn't mean we will lose.

Injuries are the key point for me. This might be a bit of a hot take but I think we might be the best team in the country with Donkoh, Ford, and KJ Winston all available. The whole
game at O$U, for me, came down to O$U buying the best free agent safety available (who was able to cover Warren) and PSU not having Winston.

That, and the fact our OL couldn't block their DL. It's pathetic when a team can not move the ball when their all world TE is being covered. OSU's safety is about 6', Warren is 6-6, you could easily throw jump balls to him all day and he would catch. Look at OSU and their throws to Jeremiah on the sidelines with 2-3 guys blanketing him. They don't hesitate to throw to him, and he catches everything his way.

No alternant offensive game plan for a TE being covered is pathetic. If Oregon does the the same thing we are toast.

not just lando..aren't we 3.5 point underdogs?
-3.5 right now, yes
Everyone sees us as the underdog and that's not a bad thing. If we lose, we still get a shot to prove everyone wrong in the meaningful games
If we win--everyone looks dumb
Oregon's the team that has pressure on them even though they might be in better shape with a loss in terms of matchups

Losing the home playoff game is my biggest concern. If we look competitive I don't think we'll be penalized but if we get blown out we could drop to having a road game like at Indiana or at Tennessee. I'm trying to think optimistically that we can pull out a win and get a bye.

ESPN FPI ai Calcoolator dorkalator alabama reach aroun-a-lator has Oregon as 8.6% chance to win the Natty but they're +350 betting odds and rightfully around 25% in reality to any livin breathin dork that's watched them after their first 2 games as the transfers have gel'd.

The law of averages has to favor big game James in his quest for his 100th victory as the PSU coach. Just beat #1 and win the conference!

Lanning has done an excellent job of taking a traditionally 'finesse' team in Oregon and adding a physical streak to them. I think it will be like PSU playing OSU but without the 'OSU jinx' thing in everybody's head.

We aren't falling to 9 with a loss. 7 is our floor. We could lose 52-0 and still be 7.

Oregon's D isn't elite but they have playmakers. Matayo (brother of DJU) is a beast and is Burch. Both probably have about 10 sacks. They're disruptive. As PSU20 said, Jamaree Caldwell requires a constant double. Boettchler is good against the run and pass. We definitely need to establish the run game so Allar doesn't get destroyed.

FPI has changed. Now has is 53.7% to win. Something going on.

Essentially still pickem but odds going higher for the good guys

Except for Caldwell who is a "monster in the middle." I guess Trautwein has plans to double team him as I can not imagine Dawkins handling him by himself.
No arguments here. I'm definitely not saying it will be easy. This is going to be a dog fight, but I have confidence.

My understanding is that Ohio State changed up the way it was using its DL against us to be more aggressive and take advantage of their athleticism and it worked. That was supposedly Ryan Day siding with his DC against the wishes of LJ. I would not read too much into that one. I don't like doing head-to-head comparisons since not everything is the same when two teams play a third team. Also, you know darn well Lanning was studying for the test on that game in the off-season. He probably hadn't given us much thought at all this year until this week.

I think the matchup is fairly even. They've got an advantage at receiver, but nothing like Ohio State had. We may just be a little more battle-tested than they are. If this game remains close it will favor us I believe.

We just have to play to win and not go into the ultra conservative shell we hide in against good teams. Mix it up. Be creative and play sound, but aggressive D.

Don't start off shooting ourselves in the foot and punting the ball which we have done "so many times" against lessor opponents. This has worked out for us many times, but will not happen against a team of this caliber.

Have an alternate offensive game plan if they take Warren out of our offense. Pathetic what OSU did and we had no one to give the ball too.

Finally, block Caldwell in the middle and Uiagalellei coming off the edge.

IIRC Wisky was beating them for 3/4's and lost by about 3 points. The same for Boise who has a great running back who had 192 yards, but they are still Boise and don't appear to have much else offensively. I believe Oregon kicked a FG in the final seconds to win.
