First John Donovan out. Then Joe Moorehead in. Then Bob Shoop out. Now Herb Hand out + Geno goes to the Sooners.

Hopefully, we've weathered the storm.

For 61 years we lived in a false reality. Joe and his staff remained loyal to this institution at a time where there was no instant gratification or twitter or assistant coaches making more than the University President. It's a weird world that we live in now, but this is the new normal. Coaches will leave for lateral jobs. Players transfer for one final hope of getting any kind of attention. Yet, we the fan remain. It's a tough pill to swallow, but there is nothing we can do about it.

With Hand leaving, Moorehead gets a chance to hire an offensive assistant with Franklin. They can start to build their brand together. We now have a chance to bring in someone who is better. Who fits Moorehead more than Franklin. To me that is more important.

They say in the start-up world if you don't know how to do something go find the person who does. This is where we do addition with subtraction and Franklin can finally become the CEO style leader he wants to be. Let's not be naive. Franklin knows he is not the x's and o's guy. He knows he is not the fundamentals guru. He is a character. He is the recruiter and marketer. That's it. He needs to surround himself with the x's and o's guys who he can lean on heavily to take care of everything that he can't. Shoop was the only one of those coaches that left that filled his role as Franklin needed him to. Shoop was the x's and o's. His loss is big, sure, but Pry is more than capable of keeping things headed in the right direction.

Donovan and Hand did not fit the role they needed to fill. With Franklin getting involved due to pressure from fans and admins he muddied up the waters on game day. Eventually the offense regressed when they should have excelled and now we are where we are.

Moorehead is the x's and o's. He is the brain like Shoop. The brain Franklin needs to have on his staff so he can do what he does best.

Now we sit at a moment where I have never felt we have been under Franklin. A moment when Franklin can finally be CEO and let his OC and DC truly manage this team.

Old players like Hack, Geno, Donovan Smith, etc. never bought into Franklin and his system. They saw O'Brien as the x's and o's and it set an expectation in their minds, I think, of the head coach having to fill that role. O'Brien on the flip side had no marketing skills, was not the best recruiter and had limited interactions outside of football. So we flipped styles. We lost the X's and O's and got the Recruiter. New players will never know what it's like to have a HC who is the X's and O's. They will only know Franklin for his skills and not compare him to OB. The old guys saw him for what he was and they didn't like it. Oh well. We can't change that. The new crop of kids like it and that's all that matters.

It is much easier to add the X's and O's then turn an introvert Head coach into an extroverted magic recruiter.

So let's stay positive and realize that this could be the start to something truly special now that the staff are at the level we expect them to be at and doing the job that they really want to do, Franklin especially.
