I've always thought that. He has greatness in him. He showed it occasionally but if he ever fully puts it together he is going to be one of the biggest steals in the draft. Kiper thinks it was one of the best picks in the draft(he has the Calvert Hall bias) but I'd bet on him and James turning into very good players. Smith I have no clue, all the talent in the world for sure.

Agreed on Amos (not so sure on James). Unfortunately our Steelers felt it was more important to get a WR with bad hands in the 3rd.

I honestly felt he was the best player PSU had in the draft. I think he was a steal as a fifth round selection.

Me too. It could go either way but for a 5th round pick the Bears got themselves a potential pro bowler, really smart pick. I think he has a chance given their depth chart to start right off the bat.

Part of the problem Amos had with consistency at PSU was him constantly changing positions. I know the difference between CB and Safety isn't nearly as big as a transition from Safety to LB. but there is still many differences and adjustments that he had to make. The reason they could do that with him is because the talent that he has. I think the Bears will get a great player out of him especially for a 5th round pick.

Who will have had the better career at TE with the Steelers ? Matt Kranchik or Jesse James ? I always liked Kranchik's play. He was moved out after the Steelers drafted Heath Miller. I thought Matt could have played a few more years in the NFL.

There's a name I haven't heard in a while.

I was always a big Kranchik fan. I wish he would've been used more effectively in Happy Valley.

I was giddy that the Bears took Amos. The Bears have been weak at safety for a number of years and I think Amos will help solve that problem. Plus, he was supposedly rising on draft boards leading up to the draft. So to get him in round 5 is one heckuva pick.

As a Bears fan I am very happy with that pick. I think the high grade is partially due to Amos going later than expected though, so I think it was a no-brainer to grab him in the 5th. I can't wait to see him suit up in Chicago!

Well I have a tendency to root for teams that have PSU guys on their roster. I agree on Amos, not so sure a star, but I think he will be a starter for a number of years. As for James I see him more as a backup that will also be around for a number of years. I think he is a better Brent Brackett. I do not see Hull or Barnes making it in the NFL. If interested Hull could play for many years in the CFL. As for Smith, I have no idea at all, but I'm hopeful he is not a BUST.

I honestly think James will either become a star or have a very short career. Either he toughens up and becomes a better blocker. Or he will be gone. The size and potential are there to be a great NFL player. The Steelers will push him. He will either reach his potential or wash out.

Lots of potential for a 5th round pick. He's in a great spot to grow this year. Ideally he will show enough in camp & practice that they don't feel they have to draft a replacement for Heath early next year and/or extend Heath beyond what should be the end of the line (and then carry dead money, as they seem to do all too often these days).

Amos as a Safety to me is an unknown commodity? When you watched Penn State play defense throughout last season I never heard Amos' name get called very often. I consciously wondered about Amos' last season. To me he was a more effective CB.

Unlikely, since for all the measurables he did not really excel in the college game. I remember him making an interception as a freshman and the burst he showed on the return. But he did not make many big plays over the next 3 yrs and is unlikely to be able to flip a switch and become a star in the NFL where he has no advantage in speed. I wish him well and a long NFL career. He was the last commit in his class, a flip, and a very good player for PSU, making a difference in our darkest hour......

One of the draft websites said Amis was the worst if the Bears draft picks

That's interesting, because every site I've read said it was one of their best picks and most have graded it an "A." I think the Bears view Amos as a potential starter at some point this season, which for a 5th round pick is a home run.

I think Amos goes on to have the most consistent NFL career, while I think Smith could have the best career (although I think he could be a high risk-high reward kind of pick). I see James as a guy who will bounce around the league because teams will always give chances to players with his kind of size, but I don't think he ends up being a stellar player with the hands, blocking ability and tenacity that we saw from him here. I am much higher on Barnes than many here; I think he makes the Jets' roster, and I think Hull has a very nice career as a backup/special teamer.

Amos needs to learn how to wrap up or it will be a short career. Not fast enough to play CB, where poor tackling is somewhat tolerated. As a safety, tackling is a must.
