I don’t wear glasses, but my wife does.
She’s been hinting at how she wants a pair of rx. Sunglasses.
What is the best, and most cost-effective way to do this?
Thanks

I have a pair of prescription sun glasses and I got them when I got my last pair of regular glasses. The sun glasses cost about the same so it was an expensive propostion.

If you have the rx for glasses then you can order them online if your insurance doesn't help. I just picked up replacement Ray-Ban on Friday at pearle vision for $250 with my eyeMed insurance.

Been wearing rx sunglasses for over 20 years. They are worth their weight in gold. Wear them every day no matter the weather. I go with the grey color which work best for me in all conditions. There are different gradients of grey so I ‘ve gone with either the darkest or the next lighter gradient. Polarized is a must but adds to cost. They work great in sun, snow, and even fog.

My niece orders her glasses online for about $30-50. All you need is the prescription and then you pick out what you want.

Also, they make the auto darkening lenses so you only need one pair if you like something like that.

You can get them for under 100 bucks online, just need your RX. They are serviceable, but would recommend visiting your eye care provider for a high quality pair.

Costco, if you are a member. Got a pair of Ray Ban Wayfarer knockoffs for a lot less than I would have had to pay for the brand. For those who would maintain they are not the same, they are made for Costco by Luxottica, who owns and manufactures Ray Ban.

Exactly! Just google some sites up, compare the prices, choose a frame, enter the script and you are all set!

Ditto. I was just going to post this. I got my Costco prescription progressive lens sunglasses for about $100 from Costco. However that was the vision insurance price. I believe it would have been about $150-$160 with no insurance. Really like my sunglasses.

The downside to Costco is the selection can be hit-or-miss (which I guess can be said for most opticians). I was lucky because the frame I wanted seems to be a staple.

Zenni is the website my little niece uses (she's in her 30s and a nurse).

Been wearing Rx sunglasses for years. Wish I had started sooner. I feel like my eyesight has improved since starting. Have not needed a new Rx for multiple years now.

Lost a few while hiking until I got a Magnum PI type cord to wear around my neck. LOL. Lots of putting them on and taking them off when hiking in a forested area and trying to choose scenes to photograph.

I always get mine from the optical department at my optometrist.

Benefit to that is that I have had multiple repairs done for free, and while I wait.....such as a lens falling out and being put back in. Or those tiny screws tightened, or just bent frames heated and formed back into place. My glasses take a beating during my walks.

Also, multiple frame choices on the shelves all around the fitting room.

Whichever way you do it, I am sure your wife is gonna be very happy with Rx sunglasses.
