All American Bowl

Hard to say regarding accuracy. We don’t know the routes so WR could be running sloppy routes. But nothing stellar from any of the psu kids so far

I think with Allar some of it was on his end but also his wide receivers weren’t finishing their routes and there was a bit of miscommunication. But the game lives up to his scouting report, elite arm strength, struggles a bit with accuracy at times.

Allar looks good throwing short and makes quick decisions. going to need some WR and TE who will fight for the ball and go get it when he goes deep. Timing will get better. Throws off his back foot when he gets in trouble which in HS with his size and slow DBs, he can get away with. With our bad o-line, that could become a long term problem. Unless CV knocks it out of the park this summer, Allar should be given the offense and PSU plans for 2023 and 2024 to ride or die with Allar.

With our OL why on earth would you start him. You just stated the perfect reason not to start him. Bad OL and no experience is a bad bad combination. Give him year. He’s gonna be good. MY can coach up QB’s given some time.

You have three years with him. You sit him year one, get him experience Year two, and then you get one year out of him in his last year, if all goes well. Use next year as the experience year and than hope between portal and the recruits you hit on 5 guys who can play with him for two years. This is the way.

Just some of my takeaways.

1. Kid is definitely a gunslinger type. He's going to have some TDs. He's also going to have some INTs. Could have been picked twice today. Also, his final pass was a laser that should have been a TD.

2. East play calling was very poor. On at least 2 occasions, the yards to gain was 2 and the play call was for a 10+ yard route. Contrast with the West, who used trickeration, misdirection, double moves. One side was just calling plays, getting everyone involved. The other played it #1 QB 70% of its snaps and was going all out to win.

3. Rapport with WRs. Allar seemed to click with Brown and the Alabama commit. The rest, not so much. The first near pick, his WR just slowed up. The second, he put too much on what should have been a finesse throw coming out of the back field.

The interesting thing for me was the East had trouble blocking the West DL and no run game. Did Singleton get over 2 rushes? Don't remember the other backs having over 3-4 combined either.

Felt like a "welcome to Penn State!" type of deal. Hopefully this tempers expectations a little without folks being down. Trevor Lawrence threw 2 INTs and fumbled twice in his AA game. He turned out fine.

Allar will be fine. He played uneven today, but you can see the skills. I think he missed some passes but it also looked like his WRs bailed on some routes. To be expected in an Allstar game with one week of practice. Do recall one play where he was flushed out to his right and had an easy dump off on 3rd and 8 for a first down and he tried to complete a long pass into tight coverage. Also threw a 30 yard completion while flushed to his left and throwing off his back foot. The last play was a laser that the kid dropped in the end zone Singleton only had 2 or 3 runs but showed he wasn’t afraid to stick his nose in there and bull ahead. Much harder to get a good running game going with one week of practice. DDS is a flat out stud. Wylie had a couple good plays at LB too. All 4 played just fine IMO.

I just can’t believe after only about a week of practicing with the other players that he did not look as in sync as going through spring practice and fall camp with teammates. Unacceptable!!!!!

TIC

I think some thought with his 5* ascent that he was instantly going to be the next Trevor Lawrence. Show up and become the starter by week 5 and lead us to the title as a freshman.

He was the 2nd best looking QB on the field today by a wide margin.

The better looking QB also seemed to be schemed into looking better rather than just going out and slinging it. The West repeatedly picked on CB Humphrey. Pretty sure DDS nailed Klubnik on one throw but the ball hung in the air and the West WR caught it while the East DB acted like he'd never defended a pass.

The rest of the QBs looked like HS seniors playing D1 athletes. Both DLs were dominant today.

I am surprised nobody is blaming CJF and MY for the poor play calling!
Obviously, Allar has already spending time with the PSU staff in preparation for his time here. He has already learned to throw off his back foot, Miss targets, screw up, kick puppies, spit on babies,.......

Allar had a lot of hype going into the game. I would love to see CV get the chance to play before annointing Allar the future of our Program.
