An Air Force sergeant who was arrested in the fatal ambush of a Santa Cruz County deputy was charged Tuesday in connection with the killing of a federal security officer during George Floyd protests in Oakland last month, authorities said.

Staff Sgt. Steven Carrillo, 32, was charged with murder and attempted murder in the killing of federal officer Dave Patrick Underwood, 53.

Underwood was one of two officers who were shot May 29 while guarding the Ronald V. Dellums Federal Building. The other officer was critically wounded in the drive-by attack. Both were members of Homeland Security's Federal Protective Service.

Authorities said Carrillo and a second man traveled to Oakland with the intent to kill police and believed the large demonstrations spurred by the death of Floyd in Minneapolis — which they were not a part of — would help them get away it.

"They came to Oakland to kill cops," said John Bennett, special agent in charge of the San Francisco division of the FBI.

I want to click the link to read, but I don't think I want to know what a boogaloo is. I'm assuming it isn't good.

Far-right Extremists who think Hawaiian shirts and camouflage pants match and hate the government.

I'd never heard of a boogaloo until this incident happened. When I first heard the term I though they meant juggalo. It's not the same thing but they each have horrible fashion sense.

So an anti government extremist is a member of the Air Force?

Is there a lot of that going on in the military?

Where else can you get free range time and learn tactical shooting skills? I remember years ago (i think) LAPD responded to a burglary or robbery and were met by a young man that was prepared for a shootout and was tactically sound with his movements. It took responding officers completely off guard. Where did he learn it? Military.

All I learned in the Coast Guard was how to properly put on the appropriate amount of sunscreen. #dontforgetyourneck

Not surprising you haven’t heard about them. They are in the infancy stage. I think they really started to make waves in 2019.

Here's a good thread on Twitter from a terrorism analyst on the Boogaloo guys. They're not monolithic -- some racist, others anti-government, many both. But driven primarily by a belief that the government is tyrannical and a spark is required to ignite a war against it -- and while they're at it, they can "take care of" the various race enemies as well.

Recruiting from within the military isn't new -- there's a long history of that. They're also deliberately seeding recruits into the military, however......that's concerning. But also not necessarily new.

The Antifa types are dipshit goons as well.......but in this case, the Boogaloo types are actually killing people and make it their goal to do so. A key distinction between these groups and the Antifa types.

Good information - thanks for sharing. There are certain public officials who would have us believe that antifa is responsible for the majority of the violence in our streets over the past month, but federal court records show out of the 51 people facing federal charges, no one is alleged to have ties to the antifa movement. My take - and admittedly, I could be wrong - is that antifa-ists are all talk, no action while boogaloo-ists are all action, no talk.

I don't get the obsession with antifa? Just a few weeks ago we celebrated the 75th anniversary of a landmark event in human history...to defeat fascism. We even had a thread to discuss friends and family members who sacrificed and participated in that event. Suddenly, being against fascism is a bad thing?

To me, it smells like a straw man created or over inflated solely to rally extremist politics.
LOL...they have become fascist in their anti-fascism. They remind me of Muslim extremists....there is no strict definition or leadership structure. However, under the name of Antifa, they have done a ton of damage (and this was way before the recent messes).

Again, my views of Antifa are pretty clear. But a proper comparison for them isn't the Boogaloo guys, but the Proud Boys. Dipshit brawlers that show up to rumble on the streets and provoke the other side into making mistakes.

Antifa is certainly active......but they seem to do most of their work online. Trolling alt-right figures, doxxing people they believe to be fascists, etc. And of course they show up at primarily right-wing gatherings to mix things up........and inevitably make things worse.

They're terrible for our democracy. But they're also very different from the Boogaloo types in terms of their aims and methods. Some of these Boogaloo groups -- and groups like Atomwaffen and the like -- appear to be plotting real terrorist attacks and very much want to kill as part of their efforts to spark a race war.

All of these fringe groups - left or right - are terrible for our democracy. We have a constitution for a reason, yet chuckleheads on the outer rims of our society choose to either ignore it, or take a mammoth sh!t all over it in the name of their myopic little movements. In a house already divided, we don’t need these social misfits fv(king it up for the rest of us.

Hell, I thought they were talking about "Boogaloo Down Broadway". I have some catching up to do.
