Penn State Alumni Council elections start today, and PSAAforAll.org found seven candidates who share our goals and beliefs: Ed Bardella, Bill Cluck, Jay Hertzog, John Page, William Scruitsky, Samuel Settle, and John Shaffer. They would appreciate your vote.

You can read about each of them checking the pinned thread at the top of the board, or by clicking on their picture on PSAAforAll.org, or read our statement about why we are endorsing them.

Here's five reasons we chose the seven candidates we're endorsing:

1) They are not close personal friends of Ken Frazier -

2) They did not have a spouse on the Nominating Committee

3) They are not do-nothing incumbents

4) They don't think a member of the Board of Trustees should be running the Alumni Association

5) They will support our current AC representatives, whom you helped elect last year. Jim Smith, Toni Knoll, Deborah Beidel, Susan Wilson, Elizabeth Morgan, David Paterno, Laurie Stanell, Mike Kirschner and Brad Mitchell have all spoken out and made huge strides in putting Old Main on notice that it hasn't quite finished their purchase of the Alumni Association. Perhaps our finest hour was at the last Alumni Council meeting in April, when the staff turned off David Paterno's microphone because he was protesting so loudly the fact that the Council had no say in the approval of the AA budget (the Executive Board approved it without notifying the Council) yet everyone's name will be on the IRS tax filing.

If you are an alumni member of the Alumni Association you should see your ballot in your mailbox sometime today (Tuesday, May 10th) or tomorrow. If you don't receive it, call the Alumni Association at 800. 548.5466 and they will help you get one.

Thank you for your support. Please Vote 7.

Aren't there 10 seats open?

There are 10 seats open, and if you know three other candidates you want to support please vote for them. If you don't, we're asking you to just vote for seven (trying hard not to do a Dan Cocco play here).

We had sixteen alumni members put candidate papers in but only these seven came out of Trustee Kay Salvino's secret nominating committee vetting. An alumnus called us yesterday on endorsing a very, ummmm... non-diverse slate, but unfortunately Kay didn't approve the ladies and other non-traditional candidates who wanted to serve.

These seven gentlemen are great Penn Staters and represent an outside-the-Rt 322-beltway point of view. Our fellow alumni from around the country need their voices heard.

I'm amazed you got 7 through the process then....

I will vote for the slate.

I am not sure it will do any good. The inmates have taken over the asylum.

I assume your list was TIC since 99% of us can pass that litmus test. What value do any of these people actually bring to the PSAA? What experience and expertise do they have that warrant participation on the Alumni Council? What is their vision for the PSAA?

If you are actually interested - you should go look at the "criteria" which were supposedly used (after the fact) to "screen" candidates.......and/or check out the statements filed by each of the candidates

An excellent reminder. We may not have much of a voice, but that is still better than none at all.

I already went to the website and read through the "criteria," I did not find it compelling. Some of the candidates, such as John Page, have extensive experience and a vision that I do find compelling and as such I will vote for him.

I think the original post was humorous and I will probably end up supporting all of these candidates. I just think PSAAforAll would be better served by providing a very clear and professional reason for their endorsements.

I generally oppose this type of approach, but sometimes you do need to sacrifice votes for the greater good. This appears to be one of those times.

I've added links to bios, position statements, etc. for the 7 PSAAforAll endorsed candidates in the pinned post at the top of the board. I also added a link to the PSAA site, where you can get additional info about the 7 endorsed candidates, as well as the other candidates.

By the way, I actually am supporting "crazy eyes" John Page.

While there may be other good candidates on the slate, I am only voting for 7 to send a message.

These are all valid questions although I have no idea what TIC means (you kids with your acronyms).

The value all of us bring to PSAA is our love of Penn State. We want control of the Alumni Association to be returned to the alumni members. To do that, we have chosen to work from within to make the Executive Board accountable to the voting members, change the bylaws, and ensure open and fair elections.

Our goal is narrow and achievable and doesn't take a roster of impressive resumes to make it happen; after all the 2011 BOT was supposed to be full of the smartest people in the room and look where that got us.

When I talked with candidates I asked three things:

1) Are you generally aligned with our mission statement and beliefs? http://psaaforall.org/mission-statement-current/

2) Are you willing to stand up and speak out when the actions of the Alumni Association leadership go against those beliefs, and are you willing to work with them when we are aligned?

3) Are you financially able and willing to commit to traveling to University Park for two day meetings twice a year, paying scalper rates for a hotel room during Blue-White game and a fall football home game? (Unfortunately this can run to over $1,000/meeting and is a big sticking point for many).

I didn’t ask how many Fortune 500 companies they’ve worked for, how many corporate boards they sit on, or how much money they make. Because I can guarantee the answers are “more than you, Mary”.

As for a clear and professional reason for our endorsement: “Because they’re willing to try.”

Thank you for your support, we are making an impact.

Received mine at noon. Will vote for MaryQBA's recommendations (although having never personally met), because:

1) Mary QBA has been the most transparent person associated with PSU in many years.

2) Mary QBA is a good dedicated PSU'er....I'll take her at her word.

As for you,....you seem to be attracted to creepy-looking elderly men with artificially white teeth.

What's the story behind your endorsement?

see the pinned post at the top of the board for more info about the Alumni Council election.

also, Elizabeth Morgan posted an update on last month's Alumni Council meeting in the pinned post. Please read it. You may find after reading it that you are even more motivated to vote in this year's election.

Checking in - have you voted in the Alumni Council elections? If yes, thank you.

If you haven't received your e-ballot and are an alumni member of the Penn State Alumni Association, call the PSAA at 800-548-5466 and request one and ask them to update your record. Last year the AA got sick of answering the phone and asked us to direct all calls to VoteNet, but that didn't clean up their database and we're seeing many members disenfranchised this year.

I had checked my record online before ever calling. It was correct, but still didn't get email. AA made me call vote net myself. Vote net gave me credentials over the phone, did check my info and couldn't explain why I didn't get email....most importantly have voted.

Thank you for voting! I'm glad VoteNet was able to help but, the Alumni Association should be welcoming the opportunity to be of service to you and make sure you got your e-ballot. I've asked the Alumni Council representatives we endorse to contact PSAA and help get this issue sorted.

Voted. 7-Up! Ed Bardella, Bill Cluck, Jay Hertzog, John Page, William Scruitsky, Samuel Settle, and John Shaffer.

There are 10 days left in the Alumni Council elections, if you have already voted thank you. If you have helped another alumni member vote, THANK YOU! Trustee Anthony Lubrano's mega-thread only reinforces how many of our trustees are using Penn State as an ATM, and the Alumni Association funds it all.

We are asking members to vote for the seven candidates we are endorsing: Ed Bardella, Bill Cluck, Jay Hertzog, John Page, William Scruitsky, Samuel Settle and John Shaffer. You can read about each candidate here: http://psaaforall.org

Seven days left to vote in the Alumni Association Alumni Council elections, Reason #7 to Vote7: our candidates didn't have a spouse on the Nominating Committee. We believe in fair and open elections, and think self-dealing committee members are the real culture problem at Penn State.

Six days left to vote in the Alumni Association Alumni Council elections. Reason #6 to Vote7: we think the alumni chapters have been getting shortchanged and we're working to fix that.

The local alumni chapter is the heart of the Penn State Alumni Association. All local chapters should be supported in their mission of recruiting and encouraging local students to consider Penn State, and in their efforts to provide scholarships for those students. Instead chapters are being used as fundraising machines for University Park, with little to no support for their activities from the Alumni Association. We're trying to stop this.

psaaforall-7reasons-2016-6.jpg

Only five days left of me bumping this thread to the top! The Alumni Association is the ATM for the Old Guard so it's important we disrupt that agenda.

Reason #5 to Vote7: Because we speak up. LOUDLY.

We are the minority and intent on change so we must make our voice heard. We are polite, we are respectful, and we are LOUD (proof: they turned off David Paterno's microphone at the last meeting). And I think getting Dr Jay Hertzog in a large room of people who need to have their minds change would be worth selling tickets to (no wait, all Alumni Association meetings are closed to members).

Alumni Council elections end in four days. If you haven't voted already, please vote soon. And consider voting 7.

Roberts Rules of Order protect the right of the majority to decide, the rights of individual members, and the rights of absentees. But most importantly it ensures that minority opinions are heard. When Trustee Kay Salvino did away with them last year it was because the Alumni Association didn't want to hear any voices but their own. But then we showed up.

Every B1G alumni association agrees, except for the Penn State Alumni Association. Even the Girl Scouts agree it’s a no-brainer. We are working to reinstate them.
