Nashville and surrounds is a rockin'!

Amazon has bought land in Wilson County for an immense distribution hub that will more than double its regional footprint.

The online retail giant paid $3.7 million for about 75 acres of land in Mt. Juliet, according to Wilson County public records. City officials rezoned the land at the end of October and green-lit a preliminary master plan for the property that calls for a 92-foot-tall building with 3.52 million square feet of distribution space, and another 80,000 square feet of office space. Panattoni Development Co. is building the facility for Amazon.

Once open, the hulking facility — which would create about 1,200 jobs — will jolt Amazon's portfolio in Greater Nashville to more than 6.5 million square feet of distribution space. It's a forceful sign of the dominant online retailer's insatiable need for real estate. For perspective, the Mt. Juliet building is more than triple the size of the buildings in Lebanon and Murfreesboro that marked Amazon's arrival to the region in 2012.

This year alone, Amazon has secured 4.14 million square feet of new space, including this project, a building in Antioch and a second outpost near Nashville International Airport.

Bad news for me. This means that same day or same hour shipping on way to much shit my wife buys online from them.
