American men's tennis: More failure

Eubanks goes down. Now just 7 left...
Eubanks isn't good though. He got hot and people overrated him because they're desperate. Taylor is the only outside threat and that's only if Carlos and Novak get injured or someone else beats them for Taylor.

Tennis is just falling out of favor with American sports fans. The men’s players have been bad to average since Sampras, Roddick, and Chang retired. The women’s players have been equally as poor, minus Serena and Venus early in her career. The upcoming USA players do not appear to be much better.

We've got two women in the top 6 in the world right now...not too shabby.

They may currently be ranked in the top 6 but that says more on the overall state of women’s tennis than anything else. Absolutely no one is going to list Jessica Pegula and Coco Gauf as dominate tennis players, much less on the level of past great US players.

The women aren't bad right now. Not Evert, King, Venus, Serena, Davenport, Capriati, etc but Stephens and Kenin have won Grand Slams. Pegula's a legit top 5 player. Gauff has potential to be great. Kenin's healthy again and could be legit.

Gauff is 19--she has that ability to be a consistent threat. Not saying she'll reach that or be able to beat Iga and Sabalenka consistently but she's probably going be a top 3-5 player for a decade. Let's also not pretend Serena was consistently dominant. She made runs then faded and made runs.

The men are the problem and I blame the academies.

Michelsen going down. 5 left...

After tomorrow night probably just 2 will be left in Fritz and MAYBE Tiafoe.
Michelsen losing wasn't a surprise or even disappointing. He's playing better than anyone probably expected including himself. The other American lost to another American.

I agree.

I mean, obviously Mmoh will still be playing, since he's off tomorrow. And the other 4 Americans are all favored (though Paul is a very small favorite).
Right...Mmoh is a lock to be alive after tomorrow. Just need one other to win.

What we NEED is 2 quarter finalists and 1 semi finalist... otherwise it is same old same ol
There isn't a man ranked in the top 8 so that's unrealistic. Frances and Taylor have a realitively way path to the quarters but to say once has to make the semis isn't fair. This tournament is about seeing them (Taylor Frances and Tommy Paul) grow and beat those they should beat. If Tommy gets to the 4th and the other 2 make the quarters its a huge step forward.

3-0 so fae today with Taylor dominating early. 4-5 guys in the 4th round with 1 guaranteed for the quarters is definitely progress.

Speaking of Djokovic, he won real late match last night after losing first two sets.
Those first two sets were great…then Novak flipped the switch and really increased his level of play. Crazy thing is that down 2-0, he was still favored in the match.

He definitely looked in trouble then realized who he was. Really hoping for a Carlos-Novak final. I want them to meet as many times as possible in a Grand Slam final over the next year or two before Novak walks away.
