Starting to become a little bit of a fan. "Shit Shots Count" is a brutally expressive song. I am a big fan of those lyrics. the music? Meh.

Great band. Been listening to them a long time now. You might want to check out Bottle Rockets too. Another band that has some great tunes.

Yes, I'm a huge fan. Started listening to them in the early 2000s, when "Decoration Day" (their best album, IMHO) came out. "The Dirty South" was also excellent, as was "Southern Rock Opera." Whenever I'm tailgating, DBT is on the radio.

If you've never seen them live, you must. I've never seen a live band like them. They take the stage and, boom, it's like a wall of sound.

Not sure how deep you are into their discography, but my humble picks for their Top 10 songs are as follows:

1. Zip City : I am more of a Patterson Hood fan than a Mike Cooley fan, but this is a masterpiece. It's like a modern-day, darker version of Springsteen's "Born to Run."
2. Decoration Day: From when Jason Isbell was still in the band. Epic song.
3. The Living Bubba: Man does Patterson sing his ass off in this one.
4. Heathens: Another Patterson classic.
5. Sinkhole: Great guitar riff.
6. Goddamned Lonely Love: From the Isbell era.
7. Carl Perkins Cadillac: One of their most melodic tunes.
8. My Sweet Annette: Great slide/steel guitar work in this one.
9. Uncle Frank: Hints at their political philosophies.
10. Used to be a Cop: The best of their most recent work.

Drive By F@cking Truckers, Jason Isbell, Lucinda Williams, Sturgill Simpson, Emmylou, etc. etc. etc. this list is long and real.

Enjoy every song.

I'm a huge fan myself...My personal favorites are "Perfect Timing," "Sounds Better in the Song," "Women Without Whiskey," "Used to Be a Cop," "Heathens" and "Ghost to Most."

If you haven't already, check out Jason Isbell. He was a previous member of the band and has put out some great stuff on his own and with his band the 400 Unit. My favorite Isbell songs are "Codeine," "Alabama Pines," "Stopping By," "Street Lights" and "Relatively Easy."

Enjoy!

And Whiskeytown, Wilco (the early stuff), Son Volt, Uncle Tupelo, Old 97s, etc.

Great call on Sturgill Simpson by the way. Check out this performance from Letterman:

Several years back they kept popping up on one of my Pandora stations. I got hooked. Love their music.

Glad to help. I really would suggest buying Decoration Day, The Dirty South and Southern Rock Opera. In order, those are their best three albums.

Agree with all of the above. Also check out The Gourds Dem. Some good time music...

The Gourds cover of Gin and Juice.

So look like minded folks, let me share this if you are interested in the genre.

One of my brothers roommates back in college is a guy named Mike Snyder, also known as Spike. He owns the All Good Cafe in the Deep Elem neighborhood of Dallas. He is a character.

The All Good gets many great bands and Spike promotes shows in larger venues of name caliber bands like those mentioned here.

If you are ever in Dallas, head over to the All Good, breakfast, lunch, dinner, always voted bwar pancakes among other things and tell Spike you are a Penn Stater. Live music on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. If you have any questions, he can point you into the right direction.

Great collection of Alt Country poster memorabilia.
