I invite you all to hike vicariously with my nephew Tyler...

He's blogging his progress on his twelve-month quest to hike the 2,600mi Pacific Crest Trail, then off to NZ to do the 1,800 Te Araroa trail... Wrapping up by starting in GA to do the 2,100mi Appalachian trail to his sister's house in ME

Latest entry was yesterday...hiking through smoke to the halfway point of the first leg (PCT).,. His pictures are incredible... Enjoy

Thanks for sharing MMII. Its a bit unfortunate that his hike in the PCNW was obscured by the fires, but it makes his trek even that more impressive. The particulate matter contained in the air makes it hard to breath.

I look forward to hearing about the rest of his journey and his hike up the App Trail. Interesting article in the NYT this weekend regarding the terminus of the trail.

That's great!

Always wanted to do the the Appalachian Trail end to end but getting a little long in the tooth for that now. Have done over 800 miles of the AT with my father along with other trails in PA including the Black Forest Trail, Susquehannock Forest Trail and the Chuck Keiper Trail. Did these trips every summer from 7th grade through my first year of medical school. When I got married a couple of years later, I did a short trip backpacking trip on the AT with my wife and she absolutely hated it, so that was the end of that. But she loves camping and short hikes, so we still do a lot of that when we can, primarily in North Central PA.
