Any ideas on what the Clemson "culture" is all about?

Herbstreit talked a lot about the "culture" down at Clemson - I know his 2 sons are walking on there, so take it with a grain of salt, but when a northeastern player like Wilkins chooses Clemson, and recruits are talking about the "culture" it begs the question as to what is going on down there. The Reeves Football Complex must have something to do with the allure....

They play in the ACC and have no competition so Dabo is pretty loose and fun. Saban has to be a psycho since Bama plays a much tougher schedule. I think they mean that among the elite programs, it’s most fun to play for Clemson, and the Clemson fans don’t seem to be too insane.

Sure..... it’s like Seinfeld. It’s about nothing.

Aside from being a modern-day buzzword ..... for idiots, who have no freaking clue what they are talking about, to inject at random intervals.
Let me guess.... this was a Herbie-ism last night?

No need to guess, norm. Herbstreit was the very first word of his post.

Dabo culture - Franklin culture who knows.....On campus it's akin to SEC fanaticism with plenty of southern belle hoochie coochie and perhaps a bagman or two

So do you take it with a grain of salt or not?

When teams are playing on national TV and there is a commentator... very often the commentator says good things about the team playing and the team's school.

Nothing more than that.

Swinney's first words to the media were; All the credit, all the glory goes to the good Lord. So a strong religious component is my guess.

Wow, thanks for that deep insight....

The insight for you is that I'm not jealous of Clemson or angry they are winning football games. Dabo seems like a great coach and someone who has players who love him.

If you want to be angry and sad, do so without trying to trash Clemson.

dafuq? back on ignore you go! lol

School is but an afterthought.

Clemson and South Carolinians, in general, have been fanatical about their team for as long as I can remember. And right now, they're having an incredible run.

I may be wrong here so correct me if I am wrong. There are two teams head and shoulders above the rest of college football. Both teams had nine players randomly selected for PEDs. Both teams had three of those nine fail. We don't know who the nine were (we know the three that failed). No other players were tested. So a 33% failure rate was realized. I don't know of any other programs that got hit for PED's beyond one here and there per school.

Do we think this is a coincidence?

Certainly not a topic of discussion during the game last night..

Guys, guys, come on. The answer obviously is family. Franklin believes in family, but clemson obviously familys better than anyone right now.

ELITE. FAMILY.

Since you asked:

Maybe Swinny’s overt religiosity appealed to a player whose first name is Christian?

Or perhaps to Trevor Lawrence who has said that his relationship with God is more important than football?

I thought it was interesting that dabo said something after the game to the effect of, "If it can happen to me at a place like clemson, it can happen anywhere." He obviously was trying to be humble. Just an interesting take.

dabo is a character. He rambles on when he gets excited and says some stupid stuff, but I believe he is a good person overall.

Agreed, I don't get why people don't like him. Hes self deprecating, outgoing, and genuinely enjoys being around his players.

Great story about a 2 star recruit: https://www.greenvilleonline.com/st...vin-alabama-national-championship/2491731002/

One of the first things Dabo said in his post game speech was that for him,joy comes from focusing on Jesus, then others, and then himself. In that order. People gravitate towards people like that. A good chunk of the world focuses on themselves first and their own personal needs.

Zig Ziglar used to say you'll get all you want in life if you just help enough other people get what THEY want. Its a different way to live - I haven't been to Clemson but I'm guessing their culture has its roots in that central theme.

I saw it somewhere well said, Clemson is a school that wanted to be a big time football school and took the steps necessary to become just that.

Dabo is an ass. This quote never gets old...yeah, I’m sure he loves Jesus. Do something else Dabo you twit.

We try to teach our guys, use football to create the opportunities. Take advantage of the platform and the brand and the marketing you have available to you. But as far as paying players, professionalizing college athletics, that's where you lose me. I'll go do something else, because there's enough entitlement in this world as it is.

I think Clemson is the anti-bama. Clemson’s entire d-line came back from first round money. That’s crazy. Kids must buy into the culture/program big time.

I think Dabo is Pete Carroll and Saban is Belichick.

Also, I may not get the details correct, but last night they said over the past 3 years (maybe it was 5) Saban has had something like 20 coaches leave (presumably for better jobs) and Swinney has only lost 3 over the same period. There's something to be said for continuity. I seem to remember an old coach who had success with a similar scenario.

From a 2016 article:

The Freedom From Religion Foundation plans to sue Clemson University over the inclusion of Christianity in the school's athletic program, according to reports.

The Freedom From Religion Foundation said it originally filed a complaint in 2014 against Clemson over the role football coach Dabo Swinney's Christian faith plays in the program, Breitbart News reported.

"At this point we don't think the university has taken appropriate corrective action," FFRF staff attorney Patrick Elliott told the conservative website. "We still have concerns about how that program is being conducted. The university needs to appropriately monitor religious activity in the program."

Elliott said among the complaints is the team's church day events, coaches praying with players and its chaplaincy program.

I had forgotten about that. He also was an ass trying to rationalize his players testing positive for Ostarine.

Maybe I should back off my assertion of him being a good person. He comes off as one many times, but he may be a phony.

Being able to retain good coaches is certainly an advantage, but I'm not sure that either Saban or Swinney have a whole lot of control over that.

Are you seeing any of this yet?

Interesting angle that probably only works in the south. I can’t imagine that religious references from Franklin, Day or Helton would go over that well at their respective schools. I don’t recall Kelly at Notre Dame ever making any sort of religious references even.

It’s the same stuff Meyer has been peddling but more believable because now the world knows Urban is a dirt bag. I suspect at one point we will find out if Dabo is the genuine article or not.
