Anyone else find this alarming and concerning?

Not really... as long as the trainers and coaches are good with it. Looking at the film on the season maybe the coaches felt he was a little slow off the ball and losing some weight would give him a quicker first step as well as more flexible to defend off different moves.

The below article lists the weight changes of a number of PSU players since the end of spring camp. I found this one a little scary. Thoughts?

Andrew Nelson 310 to 290

It's not alarming if you believe the coaches are on top of this. It's their job to monitor stuff like this.

Do you recall the pictures of Hack that someone posted the other week, where he looked like a Greek god? When I saw that, I said to myself, "The guy's eating right." Seems to reason that the other players are eating right too. I've no concerns at the moment.

It also wouldn't be the first time a roster wasn't accurate with regard to weights....

Can we get the Bengals' strength and conditioning coach?

Nahhh. I find the weight of our FG kicker much more alarming.

Seems like 'big toe' shrank as well by 1 inch from the Rivals B/W game #'s (5-11 to 5-10)!

That gravity will get you every time!

Our kicking is going to be a nightmare. Over/under on kicks that hit our own lineman in the back 3.5

I am very, very concerned with both the FG kicking and the punting. I saw nothing in the B&W game that would alleviate those fears.
Joey J. def. has the leg strength but his trajectory was very scary.

I did notice that the majority of players were losing weight and only a few gaining. I'm hoping that this is a case of getting more fit, as opposed to losing muscle and core strength.

Maybe Hack's eating all of Nelson's food.....?

Does anyone remember when Joe benched Bill Dugan for being overweight? In the early 80's Paterno had a weight limit and Dugan went over I think it was 275lbs. I may be a little foggy on that but I am certain he had a limit.

Mark Stepnowski was an All PRO center at 260lbs and he probably played up to about 2000.

Mark Stepnowski

Playing center at 260 when the guards and tackles are all 330 plus is different than a RT being under 300 lbs. I'm not saying that it's for the worse, I'm just saying that it's a relevant discussion point.

The ACC has plenty of 290 lb OTs. .

Paris Palmer up to 297. Didn't Franklin want him around 305 or so? I wouldn't worry about weight. Galt had them running and lifting a lot so they likely lost weight and will now focus on putting some on before Sept.

Also Beh is up to 284.

I'd be much more worried about what their body fat % and squat and bench maxes are compared to their weight

How about their ability to actually block. Twenty or thirty years ago there was no magic number. In the 80s you did not hear coaches saying the OTs had to be 275. Some were 260, some were 270, some were 280 and so on. The real issue was could they block.

I meant in reference to their actual weight. We all know that no matter their weight, height, body fat or bench max dont make them a great OL, but in regards to their health and general 'what do they weigh' idea, it's more valuable to know those things.
