Anyone have insight into getting Duke basketball tickets for less than a major appendage?

i love college basketball of all kinds and my wife is an UVA grad. We try to go to one game a year, either in Charlottesville or somewhere else. Looking at their schedule, they play at Duke on the Saturday of MLK weekend. This would be a perfect time to go to a game and Cameron Indoor arena is certainly on my bucket list. The lowest ticket price on ticketmaster, however is $700 per seat. I can’t think of any way to get cheaper tickets, unless I can find someone willing to sell at face value. Anyone have any secret codes to get a more reasonable ticket price?

Call the ticket office and plead your case. A long-shot, but I’ve been lucky in similar situations. Certainly not very often but 3-4 times in the last 10 years.

I bought a used desk for the home office today and what do you know, someone left a couple of Duke basketball tickets in one of the drawers!

Don’t know how accurate these suggestions are but hope this helps.

Try the site Duke Basketball Report but keep in mind uva is the premier game on the schedule this year. Some posters on DBR have tix from time to time.

Because Cameron Indoor is so small, your only chance of getting "affordable" Duke hoops tickets this season is for one of their next three games (Hartford, Yale and Princeton), and maybe Texas Tech since it's over break. After that, not gonna' happen unless you know someone.

When I worked at Duke, I got to go to 5 or 6 games a year, but they were always against non-ACC opponents and only because I befriended a few season ticket holders who knew I'd be able to go to a game at the last minute because I was already on campus.

Another possible route is to become a member of the "Iron Dukes" and become eligible to purchase individual game tickets at face value when they become available. My son and I got tickets to the Duke-Norte Dame game that way a few years ago for like $75 each, and ended up standing in the second row in the student section. It was his first experience at Cameron and pretty wild. Even that way, it's always a last minute kind of thing.

The UVa game will be second only to the UNC game for fan interest and ticket prices on the secondary market. As some others have suggested, you would have better luck in picking a non-conference game or when classes are not in session.

The other tip for RangerDan if he hasn't already tried -- go through UVa where you mentioned your wife was an alum. Maybe she has some connection with the ticket office or athletic dept.? Not that there are many tickets allotted to the visiting school, but there are some.
