Anyone watching Blue Jackets vs Red Wings at the Shoe?

Over 90,000 in attendance. Have a stage with major bands playing during intermission.

Would love to see Penns vs Flyers at the Beav. Possible now that it’s been winterized. But with ongoing renovations for the next couple years could be awhile.

But time for admin to start working on it!

The difference is OSU went all out for the event- set up a stage with bands etc. PSU would do nothing other than close half the concession stands saying they couldn’t staff them all and then close the grass parking lots the day before because we got some rain. (At least under Sandy ;)).

Nashville Predators have had live bands play between 1st & 2nd period for years. Very popular with the fans.

Almost 95,000 at that game. Just didn't think Columbus is that interested in hockey - all football. Guess I was wrong. No way in hell I'd be out there freezing my ass off.

Columbus is the largest city in Ohio but has been dominated by college teams. You've got CLE with three major sports teams and Cincy with two. The Blue Jackets franchise in Columbus has been a huge success.

Specific to the game, I spoke to a guy who claimed he was in a team that set up these ice events. He sat next to me on the way to Hawaii where they set up an ice arena for an Olympic ice skating event. He said the Beav had two problems. The first was the stadium needed to be winterized. this is now fixed. Second, he said the Penns and Flyers couldn't come to agreement on who would lose a home game to move it to the Beav. If these events are getting over 40k, I would assume that the issue is without merit. However, not being in a major city could erode the public attendance.

As said many times the parking is a no go with the majority of PSUs on grass fields unlike anywhere these games have been played.

In order to accommodate the crowd, you would have to voluntarily shutdown all retail areas in HV to allow for remote parking and then shuttle people to the stadium.

They don’t even have enough school bus drivers in Centre County.

It all sounds fine and dandy but it’s a logistical nightmare for HV to host. Oh, they’ll try but it will be a one hit wonder in these parts.

Focus on regular big time concerts in the Beav! And get rid of the natural turf. It looked terrible for the playoff game.

It was quite an event. Had great seats, for a football game. Not so much for hockey.
It was well done in all aspects but being so far away made it impossible to follow anything near the goal when it filled up.
Happy to have done it once but no desire to repeat.
After thirty plus years in Ohio that was my first time in the stadium. Not impressed. It’s an old structure and you can tell. But I’ve been at worse.
Kudos to the CPD, OSP, FCS, and OSU law enforcement for their work on the traffic flow and control. In and out was no worse than rush hour downtown. The ushers and attendants in the stadium were helpful and everyone had a great attitude.
Concessions were not good but you can tell they just tried to fit them in cause the design has no space for them originally. I remember the Beav having vendors walking the aisles and that was the concession fifty years ago so no space was needed.
The Jackets got the W and moved up one in the standings.
It was my daughter’s idea and her treat and we had a great time.
I hope everyone that wants can do an event like this

I've passed on these events in Philly a few times and also last year in Meadowlands.

The weather uncertainty, inflated ticket prices for a game that is likely not really viewable, and the potential for idiots as they often pair two rival or at least regional teams to attract both fanbases have kept me away.

I'd do Flyers vs. Pens @ Beaver Stadium for the pure spectacle of it. Like Tired Old Lion- my son is really amped for the possibility- and I'm not getting any younger. Would wear my PSU Hockey jersey.

The likelihood of it being a shit show is very very high- but for a day I'd manage : )

Have been to outdoor Flyers games at Citizens Bank Park, the Linc, and Heinz Field. Had a great time at each. Yes, you can’t see as well as normal, but still worth doing, IMO.

I think a Beaver Stadium game would sell very well if a parking plan could be worked out.

Watched some of it as switched back and forth between that game and the Flyers/Jets game which was one helluva game.
