I never heard the Dolls' version so I went over to YouTube and listened. It's good, but I like Archie's better because it's more up tempo.

Did anyone ever hear the story behind "Tighten Up"?

He cut the record, got drafted and sent to Nam. The recording became a hit and the guys in his unit didn't believe it was his record.

A few years ago I sent the YouTube video of the tighten up to one of my buddies who loves 60's R&B and we laughed our a$$es off. You should look it up.

Nice....another factoid on Archie is that his brother was Ricky Bell, the Southern Cal running back, who played with Tampa Bay and died of heart problems at a young age.
