Are Fleming and Clifford getting any snaps?

You must miss a lot of the game. That's a good chunk of offensive snaps. And they both contributed to blocking on some of those runs, something Evans is not very good at due to size.

Yeah, I think Fleming's been a valuable blocker all season. Seemed like Wallace and Evans had pretty much their best games yet against Boise State and that's obviously a welcome event.

We play a ton of it
Not only did Dinkins have more snaps that Clifford or Fleming - he also had more than Evans
Allen needs to be on the field more--he was on less than Clifford
I like 12 personell with Evans and Wallace as WRs bc you have the blocking that you need but all receivers are a threat to catch a pass. Obviously you mix it up but that should be our go to offense more often than not.

But to spring big runs your WRs also have to be active. Evans isn't "that good". ND plays a ton of man defense--we're going to try to spread them out. If you see more of Dinkins it's to protect against the blitz.

We’ll see how much we seem them vs Notre Dame. At some point you need to make some catches as a wr.
As long as any/many of the aforementioned are doing well, there’s no real need to get other players (WR’s) the ball. —If it becomes necessary to get them involved with “catches”, they will. —There’s only one ball, and those handling it are producing wins.

Have you looked at NDs WR catches? I am sure ND would love if we played 3 TEs at all times instead of WRs. Lots of teams sitting at home with tons of passing yards to their WRs.

After how we performed against the blitz vs Boise you can bet that ND will be bringing extra men early and often.

I'm not clear. Do you like 12 personnel?

The thing is, when you change your mix on offense the defense changes too so you could be dealing with an extra safety or linebacker instead of a cornerback so it's not always a net positive depending on what you are trying to do and who you are playing.

Especially for a team like Boise where you could see that their corners wanted no part of tackling Allen.

I’m talking about vs ND, not Boise

Fleming's two clutch catches vs USC saved our season (both 4th downs conversions....correct?)....or at least set the stage for our season going forward. So I'm eternally grateful to him for that, but just shocked he didn't build on that and become more of a factor in the passing game. I've read on here he is a solid blocker, good for him, but just so surprised he hasn't had more receptions since then.

Opponents will catch on if your WR only blocks and is never targeted.

I just don't understand how Fleming had 533 receiving yards as a 3rd option at OSU but hasn't been able to find a role at PSU.

Playing a wr for blocking purposes only instead of TEs who can block and catch is not a wise strategy. I think we see Reynolds more vs ND.
You don't want a four-quarter slugfest/fistfight at some point you have to float like a butterfly and sting like a bee.

Then you haven't paid attention to the route trees at PSU. They're atrocious.

That's going to be the scary thing against ND. They're coming. Early and often. And AK is going to be sending our WRs out on go routes and 20 yard post rubs. If we don't find a way to guess right and run through the blitzing lanes, it could get interesting. Or hopefully AK schemes something more reasonable for the WRs than he's been doing all year long.

Yes we should not expect Wallace, Clifford or Evans to have some huge game. We don't need that. Play their role. It's like expecting a guy averaging 5 pts in a game in hoops to go off for 20. I do think we should draw up a few plays for Reynolds. Keeps them honest vs Warren.

They can be targeted but won't be the focal point of the offense. ND has the same thing with their WRs. They are not great. Nothing like OSUs.

I think Warren's dominance has limited our WRs. Regardless, they are not our strong suit.

Gray likely shadows Wallace all day unless Evans speed scares them. If Gray is on Wallace you need to find out early how the refs call thins becaue he holds more than JPJ did...or Ohio State does this year. He was all over UGa's receivers. Great coverage but too handsy

Gray was doing the OSU style mugging all day. Either they call holding or whoever he's guarding will not catch a pass.

Franklin values great blocking WR’s and Fleming is one of them. Juwan Johnson was perhaps the most devastating WR blocker we’ve seen and he nearly never left the field.

The O Line will be tested on picking up those blitzes. Should be interesting and I hope in a good way.

If we can't scheme to block their blitzing, it's gonna be a long day.
I believe our motion will slow it down. It didn’t seem to slow it down for Boise much, but I think AK was essentially playing with his food since we were superior in the talent department. I don’t think that happens against Notre Dame. We shall see soon enough though.

I'd have to go back and watch but early on, I didn't feel like Boise was blitzing as much as was anticipated. They started to after the 2 fumbles, but I don't remember.

Hopefully we see some counters to it. I think ND blitzes early and until we burn em.

I have since watched Landon Tengwall's latest breakdown video, and he always does such a great job explaining this stuff in simple terms. It's no wonder we were struggling to pick up the blitz. Like you said, hopefully we can correct the issues.
