Interesting article and lots of mention of PSU, not only about Sullivan being coach there but about how PSU recruited her the hardest(which is strange since Sullivan was the coach at the time). Then she ends up a PItt.

I like how the father also said they didn't like Tennessee as a university. So why did they let her go there? Anyways, thought it may be interesting, even though we knew about this when it happened, but a lot more detail here.

I remember how upset some people were when Sullivan left. After reading this, I am glad she did.

Maybe she will try to cross a street without looking both ways soon.

College athletics, regardless of sport, has a dark side and this story appears to be a prime example. I wish her all the best at Pitt.

A few thoughts on this:

1) the article is ugly. what happened to that girl, and other members of her recruiting class, was shameful
2) it was hard to get a solid answer on why Sullivan left, and I did check. The best I could cobble together was a combo of a) like most other coaches at PSU she did not like Joyner, and b) she wasn't looking to leave, but Tennessee threw so much money at her that she would have been foolish not to leave (and there was no way PSU was going to come even close to matching Tennessee's offer)
3) the daughter of a family I'm close with ran for PSU under Sullivan. This girl was sensational as a fresh, but encountered some non-running problems that resulted in a premature ending to her track career. However, that was not apparent when the issues first happened. Sullivan was unbelievably supportive of this girl throughout her issues, never pushed her back into running before she was ready, and was very supportive when after a prolonged time it was pretty obvious that it would be better if this girl did not return to running. As such, I'm also aware of a side of Sullivan that was not shown or discussed in the linked article
